Question Does anyone know

Hi Guys Great info. here.

I know this is engine bd. I tried elect. bd, am still trying--

Trying to install tachometer on 99F250LD XL SC AT. with 4.6L. (shoulda got XLT)

Ford made ignition change in 99. Went to EDIS, with coil packs (or coil over plug)

Has anyone figured out how to install tach, any brand?

Autometer cant do it, there tachs. won't work on this new ign. system. They do not have technology to make them work,

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks and have a good one! OT

A couple of ideas:

1) the computer still has outlets to drive the tach. If you can find a tach with the correct voltage range you could connect it to the computer outputs.

2) You could find a wrecked 99 with the tach and switch out the circuit board for instrumentation cluster with yours. The odo runs from the computer, so don't worry about mileage on the old truck. It should plug right in.

3) Isspro makes a tach that runs off an inductive pickup on the crank pulley (or at least they did 7 years ago). It was designed to be used on diesels (since they have no coils). It should be easy enough to mount this on your truck.

Good Luck;

Talking

Howdy. Tks for input Crash. Tks. for input Ian N.

Ill see what i can find out about that inductive pick-up. Also that gauge panel from another truck with tach, etc.

Autometer has tach. that suppose to work on the 98 models, but so far cant make it work on the 99 models.

Im not familiar with Isspro. tach, do you know where their located?

Maybe they would know if there tach. would work on the EDIS with "coil packs" Also im going to check back with autometer, re: inductive pick-up. Didnt know about that, maybe the guy i talked to didnt know either, as he gave me no alternatives except to try that (paulshp.) but no email address.

Ok, tks again, sure appreciate it. OT

Check out http://www.isspro.com/Tach.html - I put a tach and oil temp gauge in my F250 a few years ago and was extremely pleased. Very high quality.

Good Luck
