egr system?

I've read a lot about the valve giving people trouble as it gathers carbon. It seems like an easy fix and easy thing to fiddle with. My problem is I don't know what it looks like and I don't know where it is. I already found the spring in my pcv valve busted so I replaced that. I can only imagine what my egr must look like with @ 20k hard driven mi. Can someone enlighten me? Thanx a bunch.

EGR location

Ok, look at your drivers side exhaust manifold. There will be a steel pipe coming off of it above cylinder #5. Follow the big steel tube (two smaller steel pipes come off of it), all the way until it attaches to the EGR valve. The valve itself is behind the throttle body, just underneath the cowl. It has a round vacuum diaphram on top. You will know it when you see it.
However, if I were you I wouldn't go through the hassle of cleaning it. With only 20k on it I can't see any way it would be clogged yet, even it has been a hard 20k. But do what you like maybe your hard 20k is harder on trucks than my hard 20k is. ! Hope this helps.

Like silver&blue siad with only 20K, I wouldn't worry about the EGR valve yet. I am just now having problems somewhere in my EGR system and that's on a 97 4.6 with 138K on it, and I am pretty sure I messed it up when I spray cleaned the TB.

For in depth info to my and others nightmare EGR systems:

From what I know now you will need a new EGR gasket and TB (upper intake) gasket to clena the valve itself and all the EGR passages. I think this is what I might have to do along with replacing a sensor or two.
