Question Whining Noise with warm engine....

My truck recently started making a whining noise when idleing, only when the engine is good and hot. The truck has 55K on it, and is up to date on all maintenance. I think the noise is coming from either the water pump or the alternator, but I can't seem to narrow it down. The engine does not run hot, nor are there any electrical problems. Has anybody had a similar problem? Are there any quick ways to determine where the noise is coming from?

Thanks in advance.

Jim

That is exactly the opposite problem that I have.

My motor whines for a good 5 minutes untill it warms up.

I think it is the water pump bearings????

Also, I am going to replace the serpentine belt.

Get some belt dressing and squirt the serpentine drive belt. If the noise stops, you know that it is nothing more than noise and you don't have to worry about it. Mine makes a noise but the occasional squirt of WD40 quiets it down. I don't know if it reduces the belt life, but mine has 155,000 kms. on it and hasn't failed. GlennMc.

It was the idle air control valve. Dealer said it was leaking air, thus causing the noise.
