Unhappy Header Gaskets!!

I have noticed that my headers gaskets are starting to get noisy latly and I want to replace the gaskets but I don't know what kind of headers they are because I bought the truck like this. I have called every place in my area for gaskets no one has them or cant even get them. Now I called ford motorsports and they have header gaskets in stock for 4.6L modular OHC engines. Now is that gaskets going to be the same as my triton and line up with my ports??? And another thing is that going to seal the headers even if they arent for motorsport headers?? I need to get them soon because from what I understand leaky header gaskets are bad for your engine is this true?? Also whats the best way to tell if they are leaking?? Mine make like a rough exhaust sound coming from the whell well area and especially under load it sounds like the engine is knocking or something. What are the most common header gasket leak signs and ways to confirm help me out please some one I NEED GASKETS!!

regalman,

Look for black soot where you suspect the leak is. Run the truck and go look/listen for the leak. It could be at the collector too.
Most header companies also sell the gaskets.
The difference between the header gaskets and the OEM exhaust gasket is that the Header gasket is flat. OEM gaskets have a rise between the ports. Hedman makes a fine gasket the pn is 27450. Check out your local performance parts store or contact Hedman 562-921-0404.

That's the answer I was looking for because I was under my truck the other day looking for the leak and around the back top and bottom bolts on both sides closest to the firewall there is like soot around the bolts and on the alumin head and I figured that it was the gasket. Now if there is soot that means its time for new gaskets right?? And how noisy will they get if you start to see soot. Lastly just say my headers are JBA's and I get headerman gaskets will they work?? Because like I said I don't know what kind they are.

Thank YOU
