Congratulations on your truck! Unfortunately, the head gasket is a problem on many 99' F-150's. Mine had the same leak repaired under warranty. The list of parts replaced is too large to list, but the invoice to Ford Motor Company was $1291.82. Luckily yours is still under warranty also.

Just do a search for oil leak under the engine board and you will find many topics on this issue.

HI!... e007dw : My truck (5.4) in DECEMBER of "99" had both cylinder heads replaced and head gaskets because of a blown head gasket on the passenger side. The 5.4's are known for blowing head gaskets on the passenger side. My truck is at my dealers as I right this because the driver's side head gasket has blown again! My tranny's tailstock is cracked and my driver's side power mirror motor is burned out. If you just bought your truck then definately check it for the dreaded door crack on the driver's door. It's usually right around the 90 degree black trim peice above the door handle. I've had my door replaced by my dealer already. Hope this helps you out.

I've just purchased a '99 F150 with the 5.4L V8. I picked it up 5 days ago - NICE TRUCK! It was a lease return with 32k miles and in excellent condition.

Okay, now the problem...

I noticed an oil spot on my garage floor underneath the engine compartment. I brought it back to the dealer I purchased it from and just got a call back about the problem. The service folks tell me that I have a bad head gasket. A bad head gasket?

Is this "normal" or common for this engine?

What should I do?
