CMP Sensor Malfunction

Need your help guys...

Any idea of what code P0340 is??? Took my '98 in to get tires balanced and rotated yesterday, also had them run a diagnostic since the idiot light was on...came back as fuel cap not sealed (vacuum leak in fuel tank). Didn't believe that, had them run it again. This time came up with P0340....

Any help would be appreciated!

Jeff

It simply means that the fuel filler cap is not properly sealing the fuel tank. Either it has a bad seal or the cap was not screwed on tightly enough.

If that's all the code was, you can screw the cap on again and disconnect the negative lead on the battery for a few minutes to reset the computer. If the MIL comes back, then you'll need to dig a little deeper.

Yes, it is a V6, but no recall has been done (didn't know about it). Truck has 86k and no problems so far...what can I look for as far as problems with the front cover?

Thanks again guys...

It's either just a bad camshaft pos. sensor, or the drive has shelled out that the sensor sits on and when that happens it creams the inside of the sensor. So worst case you need the CamPos sensor and the drive (sits where the distrubutor would be in a 3.8) and best case you just need the sensor.

P0340 Fault

Just wanted to know whether you got the P0340 fault sorted, as my truck has just been in for a 25k service, and the SES light has come on, the code was P0340, so i think it might be the Camshaft Sensor, but since you had the same code, could it be the Camshaft, as for the fuel door, thats rubbish, dont bother with that, and if it was the door, after three cycles the light would have gone off.
