Question Upgrading Torsion Bars on V6

Questions for fellow Ford Lovers: I am looking at upgrading the torsion bars on my '97 F150. Regular cab, V6. Are the 5.4L's bars rated any heavier? How about the F250 Light Duty's?

33's and a body lift are on the way, however I would like a little more suspension lift in the front.

Thanks for any and all info.

SORRY! I am new to this game, and apparently you need to be in the topic area that you want your message to post in I will post this in suspensions as well.

You can crank the stock bars up 1". That is about all you want to go on the bars.

That will clear 33" tires just fine.

You can put the 5.4l torsion bars in there...i've had a friend do it. He has a 4" suspension, 3" body and the 5.4 bars and squeezed 39s on his 4.2l 4x4...so i'm guessing minus the 4" lift...you could fit 35s (33's no prob)...hope this helps

How can you get 4" of lift by changing torsion bars? I would love for someone to back that up.

With torsion bars, 1-1.5" is the max. YOu can crank them up 2" or so, but say goodbye to the CV joints in about 5-10K and every 10K after that. Have you priced CV joints lately? And the install labor prices? yeah.

If you want to go higher on the suspension, you need to drop the front axle and modify the spindles or upper arms. Rancho, Trailmaster and others have kits already designed for you!

By changing bars, it will stiffen up the ride. Much like stiffer springs. So if you like the ride, there is no need to change them. FYI -- the F250LD bars are 4" longer than yours and you cannot mount them with a standard cab.

I was thinking of swapping my torsion bars due to weight on the front end. I already have a Heavy Duty Brush guard, thinking of adding a winch. Not worried about trying to get any lift just more strength.

Thanks for the info guys. Now, does anyone know how much they cost? I would imagine that you would have to go to either a Ford dealer or the junkyard.
