what happened to being built ford tough
What ever happened to being built ford tough... I have come to believe after many years of driving a ford that this has gone from company policy to company sales pitch...
Try has I may... and I do try... I can't seem to come to understand what is going on with ford lately... I have a 2000 F-150 with the 5.4.. it has only 24,000 miles had has been to the dealer several times, and will be going back again very soon...
first it was a front end noise that was the idler arm and trailing arm... then it was the door crack... now the cat's rattle... which is likely just the heat shield on the cat's.. but come on... at 24,000 miles... that's a joke...
I work hard for my money... and I want the best product for my buck... has any hard working American would... I know personally... that is right personally 4 people who have had the now infamous head gasket jobs done on there trucks, and I know I will be next...
it's true GM and DODGE have there problems too, but come on now, are they replacing entire engines at 30,000 miles in there trucks... if so no one in any GM or dodge chat forum or web site such has this one has ever complained about it... and there are plenty of ford owners on this site alone who have already gone through there own private hell in getting it done... and I feel for the people who have the head gasket blow when there truck is just outside of warranty...
for what you spend on these trucks... if you get any less then 100,000 miles of trouble free operation, you are getting ripped off... and it looks like a lot of us got ripped off... myself included...
and just another nice little add on... has a tow truck driver/mechanic I see roll over and all sorts of accidents... let me say this... every late model ford roll over I have seen has not been pretty... the entire cab is crushed in flat w/ the truck bed... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENS TO THE OCCUPANTS... GM and DODGE don't seem to have this problem... not that the trucks look pretty, but at least the truck's cab holds up... I wonder if ford will be installing roll cages to keep the truck's occupants safe... just a little something to think of on your way to work...
for me... soon I will be rid of this ford... and a GMC Sierra will be in my future... I have remained loyal to the ford product line for my entire life, has was my father, and my grandfather... but until ford shows me that they can produce a safe/reliable product... they can kiss my hard earned dollar good bye and keep there truck...
I may have been a loyal ford owner and customer, but I'm not stupid... and if GMC has there engine voted one of the world's 10 best... then they are doing something right... maybe ford should take a lesson... it may just save there business...
in the mean time... it's time to upgrade to professional grade...

I agree with a lot of what you say. Ford does need to stand up and face the music. We do pay a lot for these vehicles and should get a quality product.
On the other hand though..... I think the problems Ford is having is related to the volume. The other makers are producing similar volume. So other makerd don't have problems? I think one thing we can say is that Ford issued recalls more frequently than other makers. To some this might be a bad thing, but I think they are doing the right thing. Yes, it sucks that Ford is having the problems to begin with. I would guess being that other makers are producing similar volumes that they will have problems as well. I think they are less likely to issue recalls for thoes problems. No recall, no problem? Your problem? They don't want the bad press. Ford just can't seem to avoid bad press since the Firestone/Explorer thing.
I do have the door crack, but other than that my truck runs great.
After coming hear and learning so much about our Ford trucks and learning a few things about other makers products, I wouldn't buy any vehicle assuming that I will get 100,000 trouble free miles out of it. It's a gamble, with any one you get.
You are absolutely justified here. I don't blame you one bit. If I were in your shoes I think I would follow the same route. Fortunately I have been pleased with my Ford truck.
GMC is making a fine vehicle. I'm not so attracted to the looks but I think they are a good vehicle. I hope your are happy in one!

You know, hearing these FORD quality testamonials is kind of like listening to people talk about the rain. It never ever ever rains just right. It's always a complaint that it won't stop, or we've gotton to much.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, people complain to much. Ever consider any of the peoblems you're having to be operater error induced? I had a guy Bi#ching to me because his 4.6 died on him. And yes, I did care, until he said that he had not changrd the oil for about 15,000! And still thought I should feel sorry for him. It just seems curious when I see many stories posted about trucks just dying, (which I KNOW that they really do) but I NEVER ever see anybody type in their post "I was out hot rodding the other night" or "I was hooked up bumber to bumper with another truck in a pulling contenst".
But hey, aren't I being hypocritical? I'm complaing about complaing. I was just sick of the opinionated "Ford Fact" bashing in this post.
I guesss the terrain where you're from makes "Every" one of the F-150's crash differently.
Anyhow, you enjoy your DOWNgrade to a GMC sierra with less torque and less pulling power. (And according to Consumner Reports, less reliability) You have a great day

with 14 posts . you arent a dedicated ford owner . i have said simular things when my truck wasnt running well . dam get rid of it and get a chevy . lmao ... well i fixed it and have been fixing it up . and it is back to running like crap again . but i aint complaining . cause i am a DEDICATED FORD OWNER ! i love my truck and i know it's potential. i've put alot of $ into to . and i aint about to just get rid of it no matter what it cost me to keep it running tops! but you see, we've all had our share of problems . but we are still here with our ford trucks and our higher posts count cause we are dedicated to our ford trucks . i'm i right guys?
Roll over statement
... every late model ford roll over I have seen has not been pretty... the entire cab is crushed in flat w/ the truck bed...
this has been eating at me. my truck was in the shop a few weeks ago for various problems, turned out to be stemming from the 4.6 leaking head gasket problem. they put in one new head, and after discussion with ford i paid around half (1200.00) even though i had just about 50,000 miles on the truck. i suspect that the truck had been going bad for some time. got it back and a few days later it ran worse.
its back at the dealership waiting for a new catalytic converter to come in. its been wating about a week, and i dont know how long this will take.
i never thought i would have to worry about a motor going bad at 50,000 miles, and we buy all our vehicles for the 'long hall'.
our past 3 hondas had gotten well over 100.000 miles on them with nothing more than routine maintance. my chevys prior to the ford were by far my worst vehicles, so anyway...
i am in the doctors office waiting room thumbing through a magazine (drove there in a borrowed car) and see an add for some hyundai something or other. i chuckle to myself and think 'who buys these things. then look in small print on the top of the add and it says 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. now i'm thinking 'maybe smart people buy these things' with the big bugs-bunny JACKASS stamp across my forehead.
why doesnt my 'built ford tuff' truck offer anything near that. from what i can see you cant find anything worse than the 3 yr/36000 mile warranty i got with my truck. why?
odd thing is, i still love my truck. its going to hurt come decision time for buying a new one. i will never own chevy again, and would never consider a dodge. i sure as hell wouldnt buy an import truck either, it just isnt right. doesnt seem like there are any really 'great' trucks to choose from.

Wow, well I'm surprised by some of the comments so far but I can say that at 42000 miles mines been great. Been to the dealer once to get 2 things done. Replace some fading window moldings and to replace the OEM receiver hitch bolts under a recall.
They are machines. They aren't perfect and they break. It really sux when you end up with one that just isn't perfect, but in the grand scheme of things, that's a rare case, compared to the trucks out there without problems, not compared to the few people that post complaints about them here.
Do I have enough posts to justify an opinion?

76,300 miles, and here's what I've had go wrong with mine
Bad MAF, replaced last week.
Leaking pinion seal, replaced under extended warranty for $50
Door cracks and rust, replaced under warranty for $97(rental car rate for NINE days)
Timng cover gasket leak, replaced under warranty. I didn't even notice it was leaking
To me, that's pretty much trouble free. I will not be getting rid of this truck anytime soon. I jump in this truck and drive 1000 miles without so much as a thought of it breaking down. I LOVE this truck

I was at a meet yesterday the TN chapter meet from the other web site there was 2 97's there both with the 4.6 both have over 100,000 and still going strong I put mine over 52,000 yesterday and it still runs like new.
I think i have to agree with you springfield.
Macgyver, that comment about the 14 posts is pretty shallow. As far as i know, you have no idea what kind of owner he is. Maybe he JUST found the site. For all you may know, he could have owned a ford dealership. But i still agree with Springfield. I am a firm believer in that any company that has customers willing to pay 25k or more for a vehicle ought to be busting their butts to make them happy. Whether his case is "rare" is not the point, the point is his truck is a crap in his eyes and he is disatisfied with the service. Im not trying to bash anyone here, but Fords are not the cheapest vehicles on the market, Ford is pretty proud of their vehicles. For the money they sell their trucks and other vehicles for, they ought to jump thru their own butt to replace an engine or head or the whole truck without so much as a blink. If they did that (and NO vehicle manf does that that i know of) they would have REAL loyal customers. The customer would know that they are going to spend their money and whatever happens, the company is going to take care of them. All it takes is one bad apple, and Ford and the other companies must forget that there are three other vehicle manufacturers out there for them to choose from. Dodge got me on my transmission at 60k miles, truck was out of warranty. Trannies should last WAY more than that i know, but they did pay half of it, even though it was out of warranty. So Springfield, if your truck sucks, and Ford wont help you out to your satisfaction, chuck it and become a loyal chevy or dodge or toyota or whatever owner.
Good luck and i hope it all works out.

It's puzzled me to no end as to exactly why you're here. Not trying to start a personal attack on you, but it is kind of odd, don't you think?

I mean it's a free country and everything, but........??
Oops, it's not up yet. I guess it will be soon

What happened to ford?
Jaques Nasser.
Although I was pleased with the way he handled the firestone problem the issue was his cost cutting--you can cut costs to a point, but after that, the first thing that goes downhill is Quality. I dont care what business you are in but that is what goes first.
Now that he is gone I certainly hope Bill Jr. will let Mr. Schelle get ford back to where it belongs. #1.
Of course, I have seen this happen with ford many times over the years, seems to go in cycles.
BTW I deal a lot with a tire shop that does a lot of work on all kinds of rigs...the ones they all prefer and told me to get was a ford....They said "Do Not Buy A GM Truck".
I come from a "Ford Family" so I have a lot invested in Ford. I worked at Ford, my brother worked at Ford, My mom and dad met when they worked at the Rouge, both my grandfathers worked at the Rouge...you get the idea. I'm biased??? Nawwwww......
