Question Does WMS Velocity Tube use the stock size air filter?

Just wondering if it uses the stock size, whether it be K&N or paper. Thanks!
Tony

From what I have read at their website and other postings, the WMS tube is used in conjunction with the stock air filter box, and stock-sized filter of course.

The snorkel inlet from the fender to the box is replaced with a larger (3") tube going into the stock airbox, then the 3 1/2" velocity elbow tube from the Mass Airflow sensor adaptor to the throttle body.

Here's the flow:
Incoming air pulled into the new 3" Inlet Tube, then into the stock Air filter box through the stock MAF sensor adaptor through the 3 1/2" Velocity tube to the Throttle body.

You might check with WMS and/or Ford to see if your warranty could be affected, as in "voided". I'm pondering the thought of installing one on mine, but the warranty question has me wondering to move forward with a purchase and installation. I've only 2500 miles on mine.

Yes, it uses the stock size filter.

Ok maybe its just me but can't we just go to JC Whitney and get a 90 degree mandrel bent 3.5" pipe and a small section of 3" straight pipe and bolt it on. This would cost $20 including the rubber connecters.

Kev, that is exactly what I'm going to do. Fasion my own. I want a cold air intake and want to position such that I'm drawing from somewhere other than directly under the hood, especially the top of the hood area where heat rises. I'll also use a metalic clad insulator around the intake tubing and airbox to keep the charge cool. Don't care if it's shiny chrome, that won't help with power output.

Sounds good Irutt. Keep us informed. I will check around for the mandrel bent pipe and connectors.

P.S. You have quite a garage full of vehicles there!

The filter really has nothing to do with the velocity tube. Your still using the stock air box and that's what the velocity tube attaches to. As for effecting warranty, there shouldn't be any reason that the tube would void the warranty, but, you have to remember that the dealers are cheap bast***s, and they'll try to get out of anything that costs them money. I'm taking my truck in soon to get a FQR engine installed, and I'll uninstall the tube and install the stock one just to avoid any possible confrontations. That and they would probably install improperly. It's a little tricky around the throttle body where you have to keep the spacer between the coupler and tb positioned just right to prevent any leaks. As for building your own, It's alot easier said then done. There's also a 1" and 1.5"(I think) steel tubes welded to the tb end. Easy, if you have access to a mig welder and have some welding skill. I'm not quite sure what it's for, but most likely a necessity. And you need to drill a hole for the sensor to fit in. For $80, my time is worth the extra cost.

Cool

In addition to the hole and grommet for the sensor at the intake end, you would need fittings and hose at the throttle body end for the air breather hoses.

There are a few that have done what you're talking about, but I agree with fordification that the extra money is worth it. Plus you get the nice powdercoat finish.

Cool

Yes it will accept the stock paper filter, and if you go with a K&N you need to get the OEM replacement filter.

As for the warranty concerns, no aftermarket add on can void your warranty unless it is proven that the part directly caused the failure.

I agree with F150Sven. Besides, you can always reinstall the stock air silencer tube and fender connection before you go to the dealer if you are really concerned.
