If the dampness occurs right after you start the truck up it is normal. That is moisture inside the exhaust system blowing out. If you have moisture in the exhaust when the engine is hot, then it could be the head gasket.

I'm looking at the invoice from Mike Bass Ford in Lorain Ohio from when they did mine under warranty for the dreaded '99 5.4 oil leak. The total bill to Ford Motor Company was: $1291.82.

The moisture you see is not a leaking head gasket, but rater normal water being produced while your cold engine is in an "open loop" (cold) condition. Which means it is running rich until it warms slightly, and will continue to produce water for approx 2 minutes.
I'm not slamming you, but would hate to see you spend your bucks on a fix that's not needed.

You'll know when it's the head gasket. Antifreeze will be running out your tailpipes. Wife's old 3.8 in Her T-Bird blew the left one. Ford wanted $1500.00 to fix it. Mechanic where she works did it for free.
