Angry My rant, so skip if you don't care......

Only with a neighbor that had his rig done that way! Every morning at 6:00 AM, he would start the thing up and rev the he!! out of it for five minutes!! Then, let it idle for another ten. That's only half of it. He'd come home at 1:00 AM and rip down the street, then park it and rev the he!! out of it again.

Pi$$ed the whole neighborhood off big time. We would ask the guy if he could at least stop reving it up, but said that's the only way it'll run. The guy was a complete a$$ (it was even a Ford F150!). He was just renting the place, and we complained to the owners. They kicked him out the next month.

Sorry, I know you aren't that way, I've just had bad experiences with people with loud exhausts and just had to vent.........

You will lose some low end torque. I had straight pipes on one of my trucks and it had no guts at low speed but it would scream on the highway. I've heard theres a chance you can crack an exhaust valve if a gust of cool air blows up the pipe after you park it.

Your best bet would be to put some flowmasters on.

Don't be surprised if someone keys your paint, dents a side panel, or throws paint on your truck, because straight pipes just aint neighborly. Run 'em in my neighborhood and I'd call the cops.

I've got straight pipes dam it and I love 'em!! They have Chevelle resonator tips and sound terrific. It's actually got very good tone to it, not just absurdly loud. I live way out in the boonies, so I'm not annoying people in the dead of the night.

But, they're also not illegal where I live. As long as you leave the cats alone, and the exhaust comes all the way to the back of the vehicle, you're fine in my area.

(My neighbor has a '65 Corvette with straight pipes coming directly off the 396, now you want to talk about loud!!)

I should be alright as far as legality goes. Hell, half the cops around here run straights on their personal vehicle and two of the undercover mustangs have 'em. The only neighbor I have around here, I don't like anyways, so they don't matter to me. As far as low end torque goes, though, I think I'll balance it out with some pullies and/or electric fans. Just a thought, though.

Still, I'm just rolling the idea around in my head... glasspacks aren't out of the question.

I have run straight pipes for years. I love the sound when you get on it. Ford4ever was right. You will lose some low-end, but scream when running it out. I don't notice the low-end loss with mine until I hook to a trailor, or load a lot in the back. I have many neighbors and have never had any complaints. Although, I do try to be respectful of them. We had a guy a few years ago with a straight piped Dodge that left at 5:30 every morning running hard down the street. He left and we were all glad. Run straights if you like just remember that some folks don't like to hear them, Rich.
