try the timing cover or water pump bolts check to see if the gaskets are pushed out on the timing cover ?
ps get a pressure tester on the radiator system to find the leak ?
good luck

RYRROCKETMAN28,
I'm pretty sure there is a recall on the 97 for a leak around the cover look at some of the post in the V6 section. Our go to your local Ford dealer and they can tell you if it is covered by the recall. Good Luck!

Water pumps leak (read GUSH) like a bitch when they're on their last legs. If it's just little, probably not the pump it self.

Unhappy

Unfortunatlely my friend, you are a victim of the "front cover gasket recall". You need to go to your nearest ford dealer immediatly and get it replaced if it isn't too late already! If it is, then you will need a new engine, which could (in my case) take up to three weeks to repair! You need to let the dealer know that you know about this recall and you want the repair done. If the dealer is any kind of reputable dealer, they will supply you with a rental (mine did), also check and make sure that you did not receive a recall letter. If you are the second owner then obviously the dealer (if it was ford)either knew , or is trying to get out of using tech time (mechanic labor). Be extremely adamant when dealing with this or they will blow you off! Go to V-6 engines, there is a lady in there that I supplied the same advice to. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Thumbs down

Hello I'm new to this board, but I had the same problem with my 97 F-150 leaking coolant. It was the timming cover gasket that was the problem which was fixed by Ford under warranty. So I would take it back to the dealer for a fix and the best of luck to you.
