Improving My F150

I've got a very nice looking 85 for F150 Stepside with a straight 6 that runs consistantly, but not great in the least. I'd like to start working on it, but I don't know where to start. Anyone who has an opinion on this or has some suggestions on places to look for more information I'd love to have it.

Thanks

Smile Welcome.....

You didn’t mention the # of miles on it. Does it burn or leak oil? You may want to have a compression test done first. This way you won’t dump a bunch of money into it and find out that a cylinder is going bad.

Start out by giving the motor a good washing. It’s so much nicer to work on a clean motor. Then, give it a complete tune up. Plugs, wires, distrib cap, adjust the timing, change all the filters, flush the cooling system, change the t’stat. Get the tranny serviced accordingly, depending on what it is (auto/manual).

Now, you can start thinking about all the mods. Being a straight six, you’ll be limited on the power stuff, but they skys the limit on the appearance stuff.

Want to clean your motor's exterior, use CD2 Engine Cleaner, found at Target for about six bucks, or go to www.waxdepot.com to get in online.

Hey PolarisGuy, you got ATV's or snowmobiles?

Anyway, I would look at the engine too. Those 300 sixes are just about the best engine Ford built in my opinion and you can do all kinds of stuff to them rather cheap.

One of the first things i did with a '63 rancharo was to take the valve cover off repaint it, and repaint the engine bay. With the new plug wires and all that new paint it really looked nice. If that motor is good and you want to increase appearance a new paint job under the hood is cheap and easy. And with inlines 1 valve cover is so much nicer than 2.

I've got a '99 Polaris Sport 400 2 stroke ATV. I really like it, but Polaris should learn how to cut some weight. Everything they make is too darn heavy! I need to learn how to scan pics and add them to my sig and/or build a web page soon.

If you can help me, email me at: ACARRUTH@ICEHOUSE.NET
