Post Vibration at idle

Hello, I've just purchase a 2001 F-150 last month with 4.6/auto trans. The truck runs great at any speed, its got a lot of power. My concern is that everytime iam at a stoplight the vehicle have a bad vibrations at idle but when i place it in park or neutral the vibrations goes away.Have anyone ever come cross this problem with their truck?
I taken my vehicle to the dealership and they adjusted the base idle (increase) and they said that its normal. But all they did was made the vibrations more rapid.they also said to put more miles in the vehicle,i only have 300 miles on it, is this a normal condition for this truck before the break-in period?plz help.
I would like to exchange this truck for another f-150 has anyone ever done that,i only have 300 miles on it. Thanks

The exhaust system on many Fords has the tendency to resonate. My 5.4L does the same thing and it's definitely the exhaust resonating. If I run the engine, crawl underneath the truck and grab the exhaust, I can feel a significant vibration. Of course, I only do this when the exhaust system is cool, and make sure that there is sufficient ventilation. As for a fix, I remember someone adding weights to their exhaust. I took my truck in at 2K miles, and the dealership "realigned" the exhaust which worked for about 10 miles.
I'm kind of used to it after 7K miles.

Mine does it too. It did it last winter and went away in the summer. This winter it started again. Seems more pronouced when the truck is cold and its cold outside.

silverblade,

If the exhaust checks out ok I would check the torque on the Converter to flexplate bolts. BTW have you checked the tranny oil level?

SERIOUSLY......if it only has 300 miles on it, i would bring it back to the dealer and exchange it for a new truck.

my reason: in the age of fuel injection and tighter tolerances.....there is no reason on earth that 8 cylinders should cause vibrations on a production vehicle.

try comparing it to other new trucks...i am sure most will be smoother....and don't trust
the break-in excuse. all cars should be relatively smooth when new. don't buy it for a minute.

new motors should feel 'tight' and 'smooth'.
broken-in motors should feel 'eased' and 'smooth'.

y2kHarley!!!
Didn't you know -- rough idle and vibrations are "NORMAL" for the f150 5.4. It's caused by the "camshaft" at least thats what the ford "hotline" told the dealer that was last (to no avail) working on my truck. I am not kidding you here -- see the "rough idle/ engine miss thread" and you will see several instances where we have been fed this BS!!!

My 98 5.4L had a bad vibration at idle..the center arm rest would vibrate. My current truck is very smooth. Dealer says "break in period" huh?? Right! Mine has been smooth from day one.

they are always gonna feed us b.s.....
doesn't mean we gotta eat it. if i had only 300 miles on my truck and there was something noticeably wrong, i'd return for a new one....that's it....no other options.

my truck has been smooth from day one.....
although i noticed that after a full throttle blast...it smooths out...but for the most part it's never rough.

could it be the oxygenated gas in the cold climes?
