Post radio ?'s

I know this doesn't have anything to do with engines but it seems like the other message boards don't get visited as much. Has anybody had a single DIN radio installed in there dual DIN slot? How did it look? Did you do it yourself or did you take it in? I want a 45 to 50 watt radio but there aren't any dual DIN ones. If you have pictures but don't have them online, email them to me.

the adapter kits that you get when you order from crutchfield are really nice. the one i had in my ol ranger was so nice it almost looked stock. the space that was not used they made into a little shelf thingy. it held my remote for the head unit nicely. i wasnt too impressed with the one that is in my wifes car (a 98 olds eight-eight ls).

oh by the way. if you havent bought a radio yet i would highly recommend crutchfield www.crutchfield.com they give you the mounting bracket and the wiring harness, which makes it so you dont have to hack into the original wiring. after hooking up the adapter to the head unit, switching between the aftermarket radio and the original double din can be done in a minute or two. theyre prices are very competitive and their tech support is top notch. no i am not a spokesperson but i have bought at least 15 head units from them and various amplifiers and speakers.

Last fall I ordered a Pioneer DEH-P7200 from crutchfield. Have been nothing but happy with it. The adapter that fits the dual din slot has a little cubby slot that is above the radio and the radio is about 2/3rds of the way down from the top in the dual din hole. The cubby is just big enough to hold the cd case of the disc that you are playing. Other than that or a few pencils, pretty worthless, but a nice clean install all the same.
the instructions that came with the set from crutchfield were great. They even included the instructions for replacing the speakers. I didn't even order speaker, but had some I was planning to put in!

Cool

Crutchfield is always expensive, but do you do get the additional stuff free. My headunit adapter kit came broken. They sent a new one out no prob. I bought all my stuff there on sale. The head unit, 4 5x8 speakers, sub amp, 2 10" subs. I wouldn't touch their regular prices.

I bought my Clarion Pro-Audio from Autotoys.com. Their price on my radio was $150 less than crutchfield. Sure you get the harness and kit for free, but those only cost about $35 from your local Best Buy store. Check out their page, especially their clearance pages. Most manufacturers have come out with a new line for 2001 and autotoys will have most 2000 models on clearance.

King James,

I just installed an Alpine CDM-7857 CD/Receiver in my dash, in addition to a Cobra 18 WX Weatherband CB -- BOTH IN THE DASH. I've only bought Alpine receivers in the past, and this one I have now REALLY IMPRESSES me! Even with the stock speakers, the sound processor gives it quality nearly as good as a set of component speakers. But, the OEM door speakers will be replaced soon with a set of Infinity components.

For those not building the ultimate system, ALPINE is the ONLY WAY TO GO!

I posted this earlier at:

Venom,

That looks great!!!!

How did you make the radio fit????

I have a Connex 3300HP, I think it is too wide and deep to fit there, but that is nothing but sweet!

King James....I have a brand new Sony Mobile ES (model #CDX-780) never installed, still in the box which I bought from Crutchfield 3 years ago for $399. I will let this go for $210 including UPS Ground shipping.

I bought this radio for a 1997 F250 Powerstroke 4x4 I owned. This truck had a very annoying problem of CD skipping when I hit a bump, pothole etc. This particular Sony has a ton of features, including anti skip circuitry. Shortly afterwards, a very close relative died and installation of stereo just wasn't that important. A few months later I sold the truck for a 99 SuperDuty. The Sony has been in the top of my closet since.

If you have any questions, e-mail me!

King James,
If your looking for a double din with 45 to 50 watts clarion has one. Its pretty nice I bought one about a month ago. It has a cd player as well as a minidisc player. Minidisc is cool. It is also 45 x 4channel.
The model is DMX555 It ran me about 600 hundred and some change. Install

rockycarl,

I was lucky enough that the CB was the EXACT width of the trim cover, so it "slipped" right in. However, the mount that holds the OEM head unit (black plastic) was NOT wide enough, so MAJOR trimming was required.

After about 8 hours with the Dremel and test fitting, it all eventually slipped in - BARELY. Granted, a pro probably could have done this in about 4 hours, but it could have tacked on another $150. It was NOT an easy task, but I think the results were well worth it - VERY CLEAN.
