Finally ready for a Superchip

Where do I purchase one for the BEST price??? Also, where is the computer located to install it and get the code off of it? How long does it take to install? I know there is a lot of numbers on the back of the computer, so which ones do I need? Thanks.

There are many answers at the Computer Chips section. If you did a search you would probably find the answers. If you don't feel like searching I'm sure someone would be gald to help. I would try to answer your questions now but I take forever trying to explain so I'll leave it for someone who can keep it short and to the point.

A. Mike Troyer-number in computer section.
B. Above the passenger's side kick panel.
C. Code: on passenger's door jamb sticker, on the computer, and on the harness(under hood).
D. Install=about an hour for beginners.
E. Look for 4 characters.

I just installed mine this afternoon and have been looking for reasons to drive my truck ever since. The biggest pain in the butt is taking out the battery and the tray--I suppose you could do it without doing this but it makes it a lot easier to take off the plug to the computer with the tray out.

If you have a 1/4" drive ratchet or a 'stubby' 3/8" drive ratchet(no extensions necessary) and a 10mmm socket, you can reach the PCM harness bolt easily with your left hand/arm. Btw, the bolt does not come out of the harness. It just unscrews from its nut and stays in the harness.

The only'difficult' and time-consuming thing is making sure(doubably sure) that the PCM contacts are properly cleaned

Wait a minute, I think I may have a chip in it already. I'm going to check a little later, but I had the truck going over 100 mph on the parkway and it kept going. If I do have a chip, will me running 87 octane in the truck hurt it??? Thanks.

Yes! it will hurt your eng. to use 87 oct. if you are using a chip. They all(that I'm aware of and I have 4 different brands ) require 92-94 octane. Using 87 oct. will cause your eng. to ping and/or detonate.

How do I tell for sure if I have a chip? I looked at the side of the computer where it looks like it goes and there is a little black cover over it. Is the chip under it or does it replace that? Thanks.

Scott-

The black cover is not a chip. The black cover is how it comes from the factory. With a chip, the cover is removed, the terminals are cleaned, and the chip is installed. After the chip is installed, with a Superchip for example, you will see a substantially larger/blue/Superchip logo-ed chip piggy-backing the computer where the black cover was.
