engine problems

I have a 97 f-150 with the 4.6 in it. It has 116,000 miles on it.
I was wondering if someone knows how much it costs to have them rebuilt or to have them swapped out with a new engine. Should i put money into the truck or trade it in a year for a 2000
f-250 powerstroke 4x4. Mine has a 6 in lift and pretty paint job, but would it be more logical for me to get the f-250 and not put a whole lot of cash into mine. Also, im having some sort of problem, my truck hesitates really bad, especially from a dead stop. Ford couldnt figure it out, but they said it could be my catylitic converters, could that be true? I personally think that it is my fuel injectors. How much does it cause for the injectors to get cleaned, and would it be worth it to go ahead and get it done?

I highly doubt you need a rebuild at 116k miles. The hesitation could be the a number of things. I would go ahead and have the injectors clean if they have gone 116k without any servicing. Motor Vac makes a nice unit for cleaning injectors. Shop around and find out which mechanic has one of these units. I had mine cleaned at 100k and gained about 2 mpg with a noticable power gain. The bad point is I noticed a slight pinging on hills at low rpm's shortly after it was done, but I'm not sure if it is related to the fuel injector cleaning.

Anyway, the injector cleaning should run less than $100.

If your gonna fork out the $$$ for a SuperDuty with a diesel wiat for the 2003 models with the 6.0L PSD. It's gonna be quite the engine.

Good luck.

Have you had your plugs changed fuel filter or any other parts that haven't been changed in a long time.

Thanks for your help guys. I actually had the fuel filter changed just a couple of weeks ago, and checked my spark plugs, they didnt look that bad. But, the plugs were Champion and i heard that they dont work good with fords. I actually already have that superduty set for me to buy in a little over a year, Its my dads and its leased so when he has to turn it in im just going to buy it off of them. Its over 2 years old and still has under 10,000 miles.
I was also wondering if you anyone knows how much it costs to get lower gears installed? Thanks again. Joel
