Fuel Guage
Fuel Guage
Dunno if I'm posting this in the right place, but here goes...
I Just gassed up my truck again, and every other time, the gas guage always goes way past the full mark.
Today, the needle stopped at the 3/4 mark and stayed there for 5 minutes, when it didn't move, I turned off the engine, waited a couple of minutes and restarted.
Then it slowly crept up right to the full line, but not past it where it should be.
I filled the tank myself, so I know for a fact it's full.
I'm thinking now that something is broken in there.
Anyone have some ideas? There's about 2,000 miles on the truck now.
Thanks in advance
Habibi

Make sure you are filling your truck with the ignition switch and engine off. There is a dampening circuit to prevent wide variation witht he gage. Sort of like a time averaging. If you fill with from empty to full, with the engine on, it would take 20 minutes for the needle to eventually reach full. If you cycle the ignition off to on, it will instantly stabilize in the correct position. If you are filling off, and experiencing this problem, then you probably have a faulty transmitter or the time averaging cirucit is screwed up.
Why would you fill your tank with the ignition on? Isn't that kinda dangerous. Gas fumes and all..... Saw this thing on the news where someone was filling their tank and talking on a cell phone......BOOM......
You can also ignite gas fumes with simple static electricity. Just getting in and out of your car, then touching the gas door will be enough to light it up.....
OK, no more lecture..... Just be carefull.

Don't worry about it...
Had the same thing happen to mine when I had the radio on while filling the tank. Drove off and it only showed 3/4 full--I shut it off, waited a few second then restarted and it was fine. Called the dealer and spoke with a tech who is a friend of mine...it's normal.
He explained this to me...There is a dampening circuit to prevent wide variation with the gage. Sort of like a time averaging using many more "tech terms"
He did say that if the gauge doesn't read correctly after filling up with the ignition off then starting, then it needs to be checked out.
