Right, but a spinning fan means an extra drag on the motor. Anytime I'm stopped mine is spinning. It seems to spin if its cold or spin whem its hot. Is this something I should look at changing.

I'm currently on the hunt for a crownvic/mkVIII fan, as recently discussed. I've always hated the fan setup on our trucks, and am quite eager to go electric.

Thanks to all who replied.

Any one try this fan yet?

The CFM rate looks pretty good.

I asked Flex-a-Lite why they don't have a fan for our F-150's yet and hear is there reply.

Probably because someone in the sales dept. owns a Chevy! (not me) Anyway if we get requests from people like you asking for a kit, we will probably make it. We are driven by market interest, the more inquiries we get, the faster we move to make that new product. We do have some interest in a fan for the new Ford Super Duty series, haven't seen much interest in the F150 and standard F250 - yet! Let the boy's know that if they want a electric fan for the F-150 we need to hear about it.
Thanks!

Have not noticed this issue with my 2001 f150, but the 97 ranger I had would spin the fan for about 10 seconds everytime I started the engine. I agree with some of the above replys in that clutch-type fans may behave like this when very cold or when just started.
However, this does not mean that you are not experiencing a problem, clutch fans do go bad from time to time, and if yours is going bad it may tend to not want to "unlock" itself when it is supposed to.

Question

If anyone has a "how-to" and list of parts needed...I'd be interested in hearing about this mod.

Count me in on this mod info. I checked out the flex-a-lite fan made for a chevy (but apparently can be installed on the new style ford). It was $450 american. I think thats total BS. I fully intend on getting an electric fan assembly off from a "do-it-yourself" junkyard when it warms up. it'll probably cost $50. Add a couple relays and perhaps some temp sensors and you're still less than $100.

Babino-
I have seen the CrownVic/Mark VIII fan installed and will be doing my 97 F-150 when it gets warmer. The owner of the truck who has it now loves it. He says it feels like it has more power and only engages at set temps. It did kick on by itself one day, but temp then was over 105 degrees.
There is a thread with complete installation instructions and total cost was like seventy-five dollars. I went to my local sheriff's department and got my fan free, the car it came off of had been hit in the rear and totaled. If I knew of other parts I could use I will go there first.
