Fixed belt squeel under hard throttle.

I had been getting a belt squeel and even on a few occasion my tranny would not shift up to third and instead it would hit the rev limiter.

I went to the local dealer and they said my belt looked like it was a bit to big. They put a tighter belt on and ordered a new tensioner incase I came back with the same problem. I had requested the tensioner be replaced, but it wasn't in stock. So far I have not had to accelerate really hard, for example merging onto the highway, but everything is sound.

Hi 02XLT,

The factory serpentine belt doesn't really have a lot of grip on those pulleys. They last a good while, don't crack prematurely in the ribbing, but they just don't have a lot of grip on the pulleys, especially when you nail the throttle.

We replace them with the Goodyear Gatorback poly belts, and that takes care of any belt squeal, etc. If you need a source for the belt, give us a shout!

Enjoy your new 2002 F-150!

Greg-

Yes, warranty covers this. They won't be able to use anything but Ford belts. Mine chirped until I got the Goodyear Gatorback.

Hi Waymag-

So far I like the truck. I got it since the future wife wanted it, and it will be hers in about 4 weeks time. (June 1st is the big day)

I am used to my mustang, so I still think it has no power. But it's all in my head for the most part. I regret getting it in black, but that is what she wanted.

I think my next vehicle will end up being an SUV of somesort though. The truck just doesn't have enough room I am afraid. I may trade this truck in a year or so on an Xterra or Pathfinder. I really want another mustang, but that is another story.

I prally gave you more info than you wanted to hear. This Ford truck is pretty reliable, and so far it has been a joy to drive. I wish you luck with yours as well!

-Brian

Something about this truck makes it feel real lethargic off the line. I am figuring it is the 275/60/17's and the 3.55 rear end. If you are up to around 50 and punch it really takes off. I guess alot of things will feel slow after driving the Mustang lol.....
