Who's using AMSOIL HERE??
Hi'a folks, just wondering who all uses AMSOIL here anyway? I just got my new truck and am planning to switch over to AMSOIL as soon as I hit 1,500 miles on the green tracer oil. Does anyone have the DUAL OIL FILTER bypass? If so, could you post pics of where and how it was installed on your ride? I am planning on running 0w-30 in my 5.4 liter and adding the bypass system as soon as I can get the system installed by a professional recommended to me in Denver. All replies and advice is greatly appreciated!!

Hello Jeff, I use Amsoil 0w30 in my supercharged expy. It is a great oil and performs very well. I liked it so much I became an amsoil dealer. Drop me an e-mail at Als0077175@aol.com and I will tell you more about amsoil.

use it, for certain items i think it's worth it to pay for a better product.
The fact that i save $200/year on oil changes helped me decide also.
sparks,
long time, what's going on?

Yep, good stuff, I use the 0-30w Series 2000 and the dual remote by-pass oil filter in my 98 5.4 4x4 ext. cab. I installed the filter system and oil in my truck at approximately 6k miles. I now have 76k without a problem. I strongly recommend the product.
Hope this helps regards,

Some advice:
I use Amsoil as well. However, I started using it in my FQR engine. I change over at about 1K. BIG MISTAKE! I ran the Amsoil 5W30 for about 11 or 12K, changed it, and did an oil analysis. The analysis showed high metals. In other words, let the engine break-in for about 10K before you switch. Other wise, you will need to change that Amsoil every 3K in my opinion. Thats expensive! Unless you dont care.
It wont hurt to run conventional oil for 10K!

I agree about the break-in.
At least 3,000 minimum. 6-10 would be better.
The key is to watch you oil consumption. When it is new you usually get higher consumption. Then when it slows you are usually safe to put synthetic in!

Guys,
I hear alot about this Amsoil crap. What grade should I use in my conditions in Antartica (Buffalo, NY). I usually run Castrol 10W 30 in my winter truck, and never have a problem. I don't want to use an oil with the wrong viscosity, because this 5.4 is going to be towing my Harley trailor (3500lbs) to Daytona (1200miles) this summer. Unfortunatly, my truck STILL only has 56 miles on it, so I won't be switching oil any time soon (10k you guys say?) But once the weather turns nice, and I go through a couple oil changes of regular oil, what should I use? (Sorry for the long length --- hey, that's the same thing I told the girlfriend last night LOL) Thanks in advance,
Mike

msparks. That installation came out nice, good job! I have been thinking about a dual remote setup but I kept thinking about putting it near the grille and it didn't look right. Your idea is the way to go. As far as oil is concerned, I use Amsoil in the whole drivetrain, nothing like it. I change my oil every 10k, no problem and I've got over 36k.

Two questions regarding the by-pass set-up. First off, is there any concern about those hoses rubbing themselves thin on the frame? Secondly, what are some average drain intervals when running the by-pass and the 0w30?
Been useing the 0W-30 here also.....

Of coarse you have to change filters and top off oil, but the oil in the pan can last along time. But you must do oil analysis to back this up!!!

The 0w30 give you more protection than a conventional 10w30. The only problem is that its $8 a quart retail. So unless you extended out your drain intervals or you use the by-pass system, it is kind of expensive.
Hey do you run Synthetic in your Harley, Amsoil makes a Vtwin 20w50. Its good stuff too. It can reduce temperatures up to 50 degrees.

I've used Amsoil in my past vehicles, and plan on putting some in on the first oil change (only have 1700 miles so far). But thanks for the tip about waiting for the break-in period! I'll wait through a couple of dino oil changes first.
Also, what Amsoil filter are you guys using?
