Post Mobil One 0w-30 or 5w-30

Ford recommends 5w-20 in my 2001 SuperCrew, but there is no 5w-20 synthetic oil on the market yet. I would prefer using synthetic.

I live in NC where the summer temperature can get into the mid 90s and on my winter ski trips the temperature can be in the teens. What are the advantages and disadvantages of 0w-30 vs. 5w-30?

The 0w30 will protect your engine better than a conventional 10w30!

Some benifits are easier pumpability in cold weather, better gas milage. cooler operation in hot climates and longer engine life.

Of coarse the choice is yours!

Good luck

Question

I understand that the 0w30 will protect your engine better than a conventional 10w30, but what I am asking is what are the advantages and disadvantages of Synthetic 0w-30 vs. Synthetic 5w-30?

5W30 Advantages:

-Availability
-Usually costs slightly less

5W30 Disadvantages:

-Flows SLIGHTLY slower than a 0W30 at colder temps

0W30 Advantages:

-Will reach critical parts quicker during cold start (less wear)
-Flows better at lower temps than 5W30
-Mobile 1 makes it now
-Probably a better choice during colder weather
-Amsoils product has a better additive package and can go up to 35K before changes
-I use Amsoil 0W30 in my Expedition and noticed a huge difference during cold starts
-I use Mobile1 0W30 in my Honda CR-V and noticed a nice difference on cold start vs. the Mobile1 5W30

0W30 Disadvantages:

-Hard to find
-Price can be higher
-Price does not warrant its use in warm climates
-Not that much better than a 5W30
-You gotta be somewhat **** about your truck to use it!

NOTE: THey are both 30 weight oils. Once they reach a certain temp, they have the same wear properties. The two things to watch for is the cold start (pumpability) and the aditive package.

Hope that helps!
