Question engine miss or surge problems

I have a 98 F-150 ORP that has just hit 100,000 miles.. lately she has been missing or surging..Say if I shift into second or third and going a little slow, she will hesitate.. Not really a dramatic hesitation but one none the less. The plugs probably have 30,000 on them, newer fuel filter, and the oil is changed every 3,000 miles. I am not really hard on her at all, but I do mostly around town driving except during bow season and fly fishing season which is going into full swing. I did clean my MAF sensor and that has taken care of the knocking" thanks for that great info". My engine light is not on, so I really would like some suggestions on this one.. I could replace alot of things to really find the problem. Thanks for any help that you can give me..

Have you ever had the injectors cleaned?

My 97 had similar problems, and I tried a couple of bottles of injector cleaner. After the second bottle the check engine light came on. I had a plug and wire replaced and all the injectors cleaned as a result. Just my .02.

cost of cleaning injectors.

That idea crossed my mind as well.. So what did that run you ?? I have also heard that the 5th plug is sometimes a problem.. Hell it could be a bunch of things and I really don't want to or can afford to just start replacing things. I did put two bottles of cleaner in just the other day.. No results as of yet. The plug wires , cerpantine belt, rotor cap and the pcv valve are all original parts.. So how is your 97 doing after the cleaning of the jets ??? I was just braging about my truck a couple of weeks ago.... I am trying my best to save my bucks to buy a Harley in July.. It figures... Hey thanks for the reply..

Well the dealer cured all my problems that day for the tune of $750. If I'd have been thinking, I would have went somewhere else to have the work done. But the thought of driving the truck with the miss didn't tickle my fancy either. So I bit the bullet and had it done. The truck ran 100% better afterwards.

Ouch !!!

Well I am going to try a few other things first, and I pray to the Harley God that I don't have to have that done.. I have the money, but that has been set aside for the HOG... Ya know I shouldn't have braging on her... One time I braged about how my lab could stay in the house for two days and never make a mess. Well wouldn't ya know I come home from work and there were 12 piles about the size of paper plates.. Go figure !!! Well I will tinker with her this weekend and hope for the best.. I appreciate all the info...
