Post Belt Squealing Noise

Has anyone ever heard a quick squealing noise that lasts for 2 to 3 seconds when starting a Cold 4.6L Triton.

I have a 97 Ford F150 SC Lariat w/4.6L and it does this every cold morning.

Tried the idler pully. NO - Change.
Just put a new belt on this evening, see what happens in the morning.

Did you replace it with OEM type fluid or something different?

That make sense, thick fluid would cause the belt to slip if tensioner wasn't tight enough.

Thanks GCOLE I'll give it a try.

Exclamation

I fought with a squeal for almost a year, three belts and two tensioners later,I found out the a/c compressor was trying to come off. Each belt would last 5 to 6,000 miles, then start squealing again. If it comes back soon(like mine) I would check the p/s and a/c mounting bolts, just a thought. good luck,,,,98

Did the new belt do it? My '97 does a real quick squeal on a cold startup. I think members here have said before that the original belts weren't too grippy.

Unhappy

The new belt did not help much at all.
I think I will try what GCOLE said and replace the power steering fluid.

HOLY COWS!!! I have been looking for this problem on here for months and months. I have the absolute exact problem. It sounds like a crap load of mice squeaking in there for just like 2 saeconds. It usually only does it once the engine is turned on but today it did it as i was turning it over. For the rest of the day it doesnt do it right? Only in the morning or when it is very cold? Keep me updated, its killing me.

well, i figured I would try the easiest one first. Replaced all the fluid in the steering system, fired her up and...squeak squeak. no different, will try the new belt maybe tommorow or some time this week when I get the chance.

Question

Turtle9343, Are you going to use the new Ford Belt or OEM? Let me know what happens, I used a Gates OEM and it didn't make a difference at all. Good Luck.

Cool

HI!... I've been having a "SQUEEL" problem for about 8 months now. It's been getting worse and worse as time goes on. It used to only squeel on cold start-ups for about 4-5 minutes, but now it stays squeeling for about an hour of driving! I brought the truck into my dealer and they gave me a new ALTERNATOR, WATER PUMP, IDLER PULLEY and a BELT TENSIONER. The squeel went away for about a week and then came back again. I went back to the dealer and they replaced the belt. The squeel came back a month later. I thought it might be a bad bearing in the belt tensioner or the idler pully so I took them off the truck and re-packed the bearings in them. Still got the squeel! Then I checked the water pump bearing, A/C clutch and the P/S pulley. Everything checked out O.K! This squeeling is driving me nuts! As I'm driving, if I hit the gas slightly the squeel gets louder and more annoying! So last weekenfd I tried something. As the truck was ideling, I sprayed just a "SQUIRT" od WD-40 on to the belt and immediatly the squeel disappeared. So now I'm leaning towards a bad belt or the belt tensioner is not holding the belt tight enough. I also have ASP power pulleys on my truck. Any of you that are having squeeling problems, running power pulleys? I might try to get a serpentine belt that is about 1 inch shorter than the stock one so that the tensioner applies a bit more preasure to it. I'll let you guys know what happens. It does seem to me that the belt squeeling is coming from around the P/S pump pulley though. I might try a P/S fluid change as well. Mabey RELINE P/S synthetic fluid.
