Question What's this noise?

On my way home tonight form the body shop, (just had the truck painted) my 1990 f150 w/inline 6 cylinder, that I just bought last week, and haven't put 200 miles on yet. Well, on the way home it started clicking really loudly. I pushed in on the clutch, and the clicking slowed down some, and almost went away, but didn't stop.
When I stopped at the stop light and had it in nuetral, I would rev the engine it would get faster and louder.
When I got home I popped the hood and let it idle, and it stayed constant and very loud.
Could it be the water pump? It hasn't been overheating. This doesn't sound internal, but from where the sound is coming from, I think it must be, (sounds like it is coming from the top of the engine, newar the valve cover, or fuel injectors, although it almost sonds too loud to be internal.
What could it be????
Please respond and help!

could possibly be a ticking lifter... it would vary with engine rpms and is usually pretty loud.
how is your oil pressure??

I had a problem like that on my 93 F150. It turned out to be my surpentine belt had a section cut out of it some how. So every time it would pass over a pulley it would make this clicking noise. Check the belt in case there are some cracks or something that does not look right.
