Question What's the best chip for 5.4L

Just bought a 2001 SuperCrew, and have seen a bunch of posts about the Superchip. Is this the best, or just most populat? What other options are there? What about custom chip, as I've seen a couple of posts about these? I will be installing a supercharger (roots-type) within the next couple of months, so does this need to be taken into consideration? Should I wait until the supercharger is in before installing a chip?

Lots of question, would appreciate any input and advice. This is my "project" truck, so I want the best!

Thumbs up

Welcome to the boards. I could say "welcome neighbor"! You're the first one I've seen post from Flower Mound.

I would suggest posting in Computer Chips and see what Mike Troyer has to say. I'm thinking he's going to say wait until after you do any major engine mods. The "stock" program is for just that, pretty much stock or with some of the basic mods like what some call the "big 3": Breather, chip and exhaust.

You may want to call Mike as well. I bought my chip from him and you'll see a lot of good things said about him. He can work with you on a custom program if you need. If you're doing a supercharger, I'm guessing he may also recommend other things to get the most out of it.

Whatever you do it would be cool to see a home grown 2001 Supercharged SCrew in Flower Mound. I think you'd agree there may be a few nice cars and trucks around but most filled with soccer teams

After lengthy research and first hand information from others...I went with the Superchip. Contact Mike Troyer in the Superchip section. I can't imagine a chip that is better than this one (from my own experience).

Do not listen to these guys read for yourself.
Hypertech is by far the best chip out thier today. Look at thier record and you will see that they are the best clear and simple. I have had problems with superchip and do you think the stopped production after the found out that it happen to over 17 other customers. NO. Go with hypertech you won't regret it. They stand behind thier work.

Hypertech was my first choice a few years ago when I was first thinking about a chip. After looking into them hard...I decided not to get one. The major downfall of Hypertech is they only provide the power at WOT. If that is Ok with you..go for it. Problem is, most people don't like to drive in this area of the power curve all of the time.

There are VERY few, really positive Hypertech recommendations out there compared to the Superchip brand. Too many people have listed their Hypertech as "FOR SALE" in favor of the Superchip brand.

"Hypertech is by far the best chip out thier today"....not a chance....the numbers simply do not support this...even outside of this board.

I have never had a problem with my Superchip, even since I had it reprogrammed to my new truck code. Infact..very few people have posted that they have had a problem. Mike Troyer certainly stands behind the product he markets...as does Superchips.

Gather info in their respective sites and go to the chip's board in here to hear what user's have to say from their experience. You will find Jet, Hypertech, Satan's Chip...oops I am sorry, Diablo Chip, maybe ADS and Superchip among others.

After doing my research I am going with the Superchip later this year.
