I have scheduled my truck to get the plugs changed,and get some other stuff checked out. They have a "regular" and a "performance" tune-up... with prices of $131.00 and $189.00 respectively. What is the reason for the difference in price?
I have some bosch +4's that cost about $50.00 for the set,is this what they are putting in there? Is this the reason for the $50 difference? I asked them up front about putting them in there,and they said I will have trouble with them. I am just confused about the perf. and reg. price difference being the average cost of plat. plugs. What gives? Enlighten me please.....98

I just got a tune up and asked to have the +4's i bought put in as well and the dealer said i will have trouble too...i don't know what the deal is

 

I used the Bosch +4's in my 97 SC at 36k and they work great quick starts perfect idle and about 1 mpg better. stock plugs can go 100k but there is a small cost in performance. They start off with a smaller gap that grows through out it's 100k life. So at about 50k the gap is close to it's mean gap should be. any way the +4's work and work better than split fire. performance air craft have use 4 point plugs for over 60 years the flame kernel is more open and the spark will seek out the path of least resistences the spark will jump from point to point dew to gap and fouling.

I have read(on this site also) that the Bosch plat.+4 plugs are just a waste of money. That even though they have 4 prongs or firing plates(exactly what are they called?), they only fire on one of them. Everyone I know recommends the OEM Motorcraft plugs, Autolite plat., or NGK plat.'s. I used the Autolite plat.'s b/c the NGK and Motorcraft were $9 and $8,respectively, each. My Autolite's were only 2.50ea.. Only about 8K on them so far, but good service and gained about .5-1mpg.

Just my thoughts--but everyone has their own preferences and opinions.

They hadto do engine plugs/wires/sparks/rail line fuel flush blah blah
they screwed me but my truck ran.. i hadto get to work so i didnt care it was like 280 bucks but it ran @#$ign good!

Maybe the price difference is wires and fuel rail flush. The service advisor seemed confused about what the extra money was for as well. Maybe I'll ask more sternly on Mon. morning. I was also told that my truck has regular plugs from the factory,I thought they all had standard plat. plugs,and the plus 4's were just a 4 prong version of the factory ones. I'll let you all know what they come up with on what the extra charge is for,,thanks again,,,98

most likely the cost for plugs that they were going to use depending plat. plug or plat plus plug ,we have a servere and regular services depending on driving cond. more filters and pcv valves and injection cleaning

I was really confused about what the extra
$59 was for. What does "performance" tune-up mean(or include)that the cheaper
version doesn't. I guess that's all I was after. Tell me what the money is for,rather than say it's a "performance" tune. That means nothing to me unless I know what it's for. Will I get what I paid for,or is this a scam? Please don't take this post the wrong way,I just want to know,so I won't spend money I don't need to. This site is the best!! Thanks again. ,,,98
