When your filter isn't pink anymore, its time to clean it. Its been tested that even the dirtyest K&N filter still flows more air than a new stock filter.

K&N sells a cleaning kit and it work great... (It should). Baiscaly, just clean it with soap and water until all the grime is off of it. After that, you'll need to oil the filter again. Use K&N's spray for this. If you can, just buy the spray. You dont really need all the other cleaners and stuff.

I run a pre-filter. It keeps all of the big stuff out. The filter always looks new.

Yes, pre-filter info please... where to buy?

I clean mine usually twice a year. Probably don't have to but I do. Run about 15,000miles yearly.

Just make sure you let the oil soak in and dry. I did a quick clean and oil and I got oil all overmy intake and throttlebody, yuck. you really do need to let it sit for an hour or two or whatever it says. And dont over oil it that was my other problem.

The specially designed fabric provides a minuscule flow reduction.

I've not cleaned mine yet and it has over 23k on it. Just starting to show signs of getting dirty. The dirt is actually "creeping" down the filter. So right now, only the upper 1/3 of the filter is actually dirty (the larger end). The lower 2/3 is still clean. When the filter is dirty all the way down is when I plan on cleaning mine. These things are supposed to actually filter better when dirty, but still allow pleanty of air flow

Hi LBC

Cleaning intervals do vary. Type of driving..city..hiway..off road..dusty etc.

Here in NV it is dusty. My last cleaning was at 10mo...only 8000mi. mainly city/hiway. I use K&N drop in. I do use the special cleaner besides dirt removal it also removes the old oil which is important. I dont think soap alone will do that? Anyhow, be careful cause that guaze filtering is not real tough.

I also had better control/reoiling with the aerosoil spray bottle.

TIP: After you do what you think is a good reoil...take a bright light shine inside filter while looking at the outside...when i did this i noticed what appeared to be bare spots in the guaze...the outside had a nice uniform reddish color. I used a eye dropper on these spots..and the guaze took the oil..I guess i under oiled the first time/maybe not?

MaxM. suggestion to use a prefilter..maybe worth install. The advantages may outweight the additional air restriction. ?

Did you see the tests of 3 air intakes? www.F150world.com
Very interesting.

Good luck...OT
