mystery engine

Two months ago I bought a used '99 F-150, truck is awesome. Yesterday it was raining and truck wouldn't start, popped the hood and checked to see if battery cables were loose or something, noticed a sticker on the drivers side of engine w/ a date of 1-28-00. Asked the dealer what was up, why 2000 engine in 1999 truck, they ran an oasis report and not a single thing about an engine swap. Guess I have a newer engine w/ less miles on it than I thought. Truck wouldn't start because of loose connection on starter, felt like an idiot.

Had to be one of the "piston slap / blown head gasket" replacements. The "service writer" must have entered the wrong VIN when the replacement was made, either that or the dealer you took it to entered the wrong number.

Maybe all is original factory. I work in the parts business and know sometimes despite all the info the customer has (even production dates) the part will wind up being from a year newer or older. With the endine being made in Jan, I would asy the chance it was labeled as a 99 truck but got a 00 motor. What's the production date on the cab (driver's side doorjamb)?

door jamb date

Date on door jamb is 1/99. Looked a little more and found a sticker on the block w/ 1-29-00 and the other date is on the valve cover.

Well, forget my idea then. I would not think Ford would have/hold a truck body for almost a year before the engine went in. I am sure they use some sort of production sechdule ( like JIT manufacturing). I wold hope the longest they have a body built before the engine goes in would be 6 months. Maybe someone did replace that engine or maybe not. Either way stranger things have happened.

Do you know who owned the truck before? If it was a Ford executive vehicle or even had an engine blown while on the factory grounds, there wouldn't necessarily be a record of the engine replacement.

Thumbs up

From the two dates I think the truck at least got a new engine rather than a FQR.

It is my understanding that OASIS will only show the last YEAR of dealer service history and wouldnt now show what was installed by the dealer back in Jan/Feb 00. You have a replacement engine and it was probably replaced by the dealer. OASIS will not show the complete and total vehicle service history--isnt that correct guys?
