new 270 Hp straight six
Someone explain how a 4.2 Trailblazer could have more measured torque and HP at, let's say 2000 rpm, than a 5.8 in a 1989 F150 but yet doesn't pull as fast or as hard (with its 200 peak HP)? Did someone suddenly change flywheel HP measurement?
If someone understands this, please explain.

HI!... The way I hear is that the 3-valve 5.4 heads will be available in 2004. I've already seen a few pais at my buddies machine shop. They are sweet! There was no valve covers there but the heads were complete with valves and cams. They will be running 2 small intakes and one large exhaust valve. The spark plig ports are now relocated to the center of the head, meaning that most likely the coils will be sticking through the center of the valve covers. This eans spark plug changes will be ten times easier. I wish I could get some pics but it was NOT allowed. I definately WANT a set!!!!!!
The way I hear the 5.4 equipped with these heads and spiecal inatake will be pushing about 300 - 315H.P (FLYWHEEL). but that's only rumor.

As a member who has 'both', I've got to say that
it's apples and oranges. My venerable F-150
with exhaust, intake and suspension mods is
a work horse. I like the XLT interior and the
steering position, seat position, etc... I can
rest my left arm on the window. It has the small
V-8 with an AirAid and a Gibson single out the
back. I am doing a hillside 'remodel' and this
truck is wonderful. Throaty sound from the
Gibson... kinda poor overall MPG (15.8 ave around
town, did get a 20.9 MPG on a long trip!!!)
My "wife's" top of the line TrailBlazer (LZX)
has the works. Leather seats that you slide off
and that are NOT as comfortable as my Ford's.
Seating to steering position that "I" cannot
get comfortable in but the wife loves! A side
door that I cannot rest my arm on (I know, I
know, nit picking, but hey, ergonomics!)...
The sound is great, six speakers Bose... color
White (F-150 is that nice green from '97)...
The LZX, top of line, has 17" wheels and 65
series tires. (My F-150 has 17"s and 275-75
series Michelins...) and the TB does handle a
bit skitterish due short wheelbase (but better
than the Explorers I drove!)...
Okay, MPG? TB is about 18 'round town. 24-25 on
the road. Power? It does seem a bit less seat
of pants from a dead start... but watching the
tac and the speedo, it gets up and goes. From
25 MPH or so, seat of pants is pretty impressive.
The darn thing WINDS out like a stocker, won't
shift until about 6800 rpms! And it is screaming
at that point.
In short. I like 'em both. If I had to sell one
though, it would be the 'pretty boy' chevy...
It's got that selectable 4 wheel drive and that
is the ONLY thing i believe I'd miss... basically
it is a pretty fast SUV (I love blowing off some
of these lower end 'Mercedes, BMWs and Infinitys)
and is comfortable for the missus... but you
cannot DO MUCH with it.. know what I mean?
Overall, my F-150 helped us rebuild our home,
redo the yard and now the hillside. It has moved
in nice furniture and taken stuff to the dump...
and best of all, my dog gets to ride in it and
NEVER in the leather TB (wife carries a big stick!)...
There you have it. An "un-biased" (Sic) review.
Don't expect to beat the TB in an stock F-150.
But do expect to be able to use the F-150
as something more than a pretty boy.
