Volant Air Intake???
Does anyone have any experience with the Volant Air Intake.

I am interested in a new intake for my '01 4.6L. I am looking at the Volant because it would not have the engine heat getting into the filter, just cold intake air. But I sure would like the sound that I think the Airaid or Air Force unit would provide.
Does anyone have any impression, good or bad, on the Volant or any of the others?

-easy install

-the only real sound i experianced was a sucking sound over 2500-3000 rpms. other than that the sound seemed the same to me.

I have one on my truck. I chose it over the K&N, it was a bit cheaper, but i liked the design much better, like you said, its a box that is actually fairly thick, so the air is much cooler. I noticed a power gain on mine, and it also has the "roar" to it when you give it pretty stiff gas. I have had it for some time, and i have no regrets about it at all.

I have been running the Volant air intake for some time.
I love it's performance - I can definitely feel improvement throughout the entire RPM range. Combined w/ the superchip, my truck has lost all signs of 'sluggishness' and is actually kinda 'peppy'. It's definitely more of a performance boost than I ever expected from an intake. It works well in the hot weather as well.
I did have some problems with the build quality of the kit, though. One of the holes where the MAF bold to the airbox lid was off, and I couldn't bolt my MAF securely to it w/o leaks. The local place I bought it from refused to help, but the guy @ Volant promptly sent me a replacement lid and now that all fits well. The hoses supplied in my kit to hook up the breather & PVC also could be better IMO. The guy @ Volant said that Ford changed things a little on the later trucks, and so the hoses don't fit as well on the newer trucks. I tried some of their suggestions, but ended up rigging my own setup.

Do you have pictures of the install or the finished product? Could you post instructions for what you did to rig it custom? I'm in the same boat as FastDEW here.

I have the Volant Intake on my 4.6L and am very happy. Mostly quite at highway speeds, but get on it and the Volant comes to life.
I put my Volant on about 2 mths ago and even noticed an increase in gas mileage.(when I can keep my foot out of it)

Thanks for all the replys. I am going to try a Volant and see what it does for me. I realy wanted the "Sound" when I punch it, but I did not want the engine heat.

On the dyno, the Volant system produced more consistent results than the other systems we tested. Resisting the effects of hot, under-hood air, the Volant kit produced two horsepower (192 hp), on every run over the 190 hp stock baseline. It dawned on us that perhaps enlarging the air intake hole in the fender (a common trick for Lightnings that’s worth 8 horsepower) would yield higher horsepower gains.
I'm sure it adds to the bottom end torque, which is IMO more important, and not easily measured on a dyno. However look at what these manufactors tell us in their ad's, 10-15 hp............Where is it? and how is it they can measure it and we can't?!
Do they figure HP using ET, MPH and weight? Did they do the tests when it was 20 degrees outside?
The DynoJet dyno measures "rear wheel horsepower".
Rear wheel horsepower is always less than flywheel horsepower. Volant and the other Air Intake companies must be figuring HP at the flywheel...... What do you think?

Gross Horsepower: measurement of engine horsepower taken at the flywheel with no engine accessories attached, no restrictive exhaust system, and in a perfect state of tune (useless to the average consumer).
Net Horsepower: measurement of engine horsepower taken at the flywheel with engine accessories and exhaust system in place and in a normal or typical state of tune (also useless to the consumer).
Driven Wheel or Brake Horsepower: measurement of horsepower taken at the driven wheels on a dynamometer, reflecting how much power is available after an engine's accessories, exhaust system, emission control system and driveline losses have taken affect (very useful to know since it's a realistic measure of horsepower in the real world).
