Am I asking to much??
Just for grins, guys and girls, you will find a bunch of 99.5 Lightning owners with the same complaint.
Until.........they get a few thousand miles on them.
Even then, the mandated (Feds) ignition retard and mandated (Ford Motor Co) warranty cost reduction settings for fuel, ignition and in the case of Lightnings, boost dump on low end accelleration all make it hard to spin the tires on any of our trucks. A Superchip would probably help the most, I have mine on order, as it eliminates a lot of the above. Plus, it gives at least some more power and torque.
As a point of interest, I have a '56 F100 with a '272 with headers and a four barrel carb that is rather tired and which runs 8:20x15 rear tires (Cal look) and it will spin the tires hard in first and get a good chirp in second. Did I mention, it has the original 2 speed Fordomatic slush box also?
The power is there folks, it's just that the Feds and Ford have kind of stolen it from us.

I HAVE A 97 F-150 EXT.CAB 4WHEEL DRIVE AND
I CAN SPIN MY TIRES EASY ON DRY PAVEMENT AND
I HAVE 285/75/16 TIRES ON MY TRUCK WITH A
4.6 TRITON ENGINE IF I GET ON IT WHILE GOING AROUND A CORNER I CAN EASILY GET SIDEWAYS
MY OPINION IS YOU DID SAY IT WAS NEW AND I
DONT THINK THE ENGINE IS BROKEN IN YET. IT IS STILL TIGHT GIVE IT SOME TIME AND YOU WILL
BE ABLE TO SPIN THEM TIRES EASY! ALTHOUGH
I AM NOT TRYING TO TELL YOU WHAT TO DO BUT
IT IS NOT GOOD TO DO THIS UNTIL THE ENGINE IS BROKEN IN GOOD BESIDES I LEARNED THAT LEADFOOTING DONT DO NOTHING BUT BURN MORE GAS? GOOD LUCK!!!

The best tire spin, aka *Stone-Cold Steve Austin Smokey Burn-Out* I ever got, was when the street leading to my driveway was blocked by some dump trucks. I put it in reverse and goosed it into a half-circle turn. When I was lined up correctly, I floored it (in Drive). Actually I was @ a 45° angle in the street, so when I started spinning the tires... I was @ an angle. As I corrected the steering, it got into a slight *fish-tail* that seemed to prolong the show. Layed down solid lines all the way to 2nd gear. Note... the street was DRY, but the surface has a real smooth finish to it. BTW, I came in the *back way* and the guys were just standing there with their mouths open.

I HAVE YOUR SOLUTION!!! You want the tires to chirp and lay down some rubber everytime you take off from a stop? Just put on Goodyear AT's...they have CRAPPY traction! They bust loose on mine everytime I get into it to hard, but now that I switched to Bridgestone Dualer AT's...no more lost rubber!
Traction is better than the teenage scratch from every stop anyway!

I also have the 4.2 and my tires and wheels are too big for my clibration. I peel all the time with ease.

I could spin mine at will when I had the stock muffler on, when I bought the three chamber Flowmaster muffler and installed it, I lost just enough low end to make it harder and less frequent.
I'm not talking about spinning with dirt or water or a smoother concrete finish, I'm talking paved streets and roads.
I have a 5.4 4x4 with the limited slip rear end.

Seeing how I have a open rear end instead of the LSrearend I can spin tires to easy its fun to do on dry pavement but when it come to rain and snow I whis it wasn't so easy to get wheel spin.

I don't know about asking too much, but when it is damp or winter weather out side i don't have any problems spinning them...it is more of not letting my back end catch up to my front. But having a little practice in the mud makes that come out ok and makes it fun to see the passengers reaction. When it is dry I don't usually hear any tires squeaking, but on occasion when i slam the pedal i do. I can get it on a lot of turns if i hit it right. -Meek
