Poweraid Spacer Wanted
Anybody willing to dump their spacer? I'm looking for one. And yes I know they whistle while they work, but I've got a milling machine just waiting for it. Would pay $40 plus shipping for one.

Hey Red,
The spacer is the same for the 5.4 and the 4.6? If so...email me and we can talk business.
Thanks Red!

HI!... 5150PHD : Don't waste your money on this peice of junk. I bought one and had the spirals milled out to a true 70mm. That's what our throttle bodies are. I ran it on and off at the dragstrip. Everytime I installed it on my truck, it ran 2-3 tenths slower in the 1/4 mile and it felt like I lost a ton of bottom end torque. So it does'nt matter if you mill it or not, it's still a useless peice of junk IMHO. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the input Neal. My engineering buds and I have something special planned for it. If it works out I'll let everybody know. If it fails, then I'll chalk it up to research and experimentation, and still tell everybody (got to share all the information). Question though, isn't the back of the TB is 70mm, but the front of the intake manifold is 73mm? I'll pull out the calipers when I open up my TB.
And if you have any more advice or info I would be glad to hear it. I'm still relatively new to the V8 realm (drove old toyota pickup for 12 years).

Neal..Thanks for the info. I'll be cracking into my TB this weekend and see how my 2000 compares to your 1999. What did you use to port the TB? Dremel tool? Milling machine? Or did you pay somebody?
Thanks

HI!... 5150PHD : On my truck the back of the TB was 70mm but the begining was only 67mm. I ported my TB up to the butterfly. DO NOT port all the way through because the butterfly will then be too small and you will have idle problems. The TB aluminum elbow on my truck was also smaller than the back of the TB. It was also 67mm. I ported my TB out to a true 70mm and my TB elbow put to about 76mm to get it prepared for my BBK 75MM TB. Hope this helps you out.

Hey 5150PHD and Neal,
I have the Poweraid spacer on my '00 F150 SC with the 4.6L. I'm also running the BBK 75mm throttle body.
I have many more modifications, not as extreme as you Neal, but as Mike T. put it "you've got every bolt-on available for a 4.6".
Anyway, with the 75mm TB installed, the engine was starving for gas. By the way, I also have the 80mm MAS installed. Installing the spacer eliminated the bog down effect the engine was experiencing and performance pick up significantly.
5150PHD, I'm in Woodland. You can email me at BScottQA@aol.com. And Neal, I would love to chat with you on the machine work you have had done to your engine. Probably the next step for my 4.6L

HI!... 5150PHD : I ported my stock TB with two seperate "PADDLE" sanding wheels. They are 3 inches in diameter. One is 60 GRIT and the other was 180 GRIT. The stock TB is only around 67mm inside diameter. I took all my measurments with a digital caliper. The sanding wheel is a little to big to fit in all by it's self. Take the TB off the truck and put it in a vice. Put the sanding wheel in front of the TB on a slight angle towards it. Then spin your high speed drill slowely so that the sanding wheel enters the TB opening. The tension created from it being forced in there is the only tension you need to port. Just crank up your high speed drill and occasionally take it out and measure the diameter with a digital caliper. Make sure you move it back and forth from the opening to the butterfly. Make sure not to make contact with the butterfly!!! When you get to your desired diameter, change over to the 180 GRIT sanding wheel and give it a almost mirror like finish to finish it off. I then took the butterfly off and slid out the throttle blade shaft. I then took my DREMEL with a CARBIDE cutter and cut the front section of the throttle blade shaft off. Make sure YOU ONLY CUT THE FRONT WHERE THE HEAD OF THE BUTTERFLY SCREWS ARE! Do not cut the rear of the shaft off where the screws thread into!!!!!! Make sure you cut it right up to where the slot ends or it will soon crak there. I also tapered it slightly to insure it would not crack in the future. Then I replaced the stock butterfly screws with smaller headed ones and cut the excess off that protrudes past the rear shaft after re-installed. Make sure you use lock-tite on those screws or dimple them with a punch after their installed. Before re-installing the butterfly I ran the 180 GRIT sanding wheel through the entire TB just to make it look cosmetically correct.LOL! Also I tapered the very begining 1/8 inch of the TB opening just to smooth out the flow from my custom air trac. Total time was about 2 hours. Hope this helps you out.

Hey 4ord_man,
Unfornately, I did not take my truck to a dyno or to a strip before adding on all the modifications.
What I have done is driven, in addition to my truck, a stock 4.6 and a 5.4, from my local dealership. the "seat of the pants" feel is far more power being produced than those stock engines. I'll probably take it to a strip when the weather is a bit warmer and get some numbers.
Yes, it is an automatic.
Hey guys, the only way I can describe the performance of this truck now is, "its awesome"! Of course I would have preferred the 5.4 when I purchased my truck but, the options, color, etc., were not available at the dealership when I purchased.
I think that with a little fine tuning, maybe some machine work like Neal has done to his truck engine, this 4.6 would produce greater power with the add-on mods. Mike T. has conservatively estimated the HP in the 285 -290 hp range. What wasn't added on to that number is the 75mm TB and the Poweraid spacer. BBK states 15-20 hp increase and then of course Poweraid claims as much as 14 hp. Exact horsepower?
On the subject of the Poweraid space though, it helped my 4.6 after I had added the 80mm MAS, the 75mm TB, and the K&N Generation II intake system. It funneled the larger amount of incoming air to the engine and made a difference. I did try the stock throttle body with the spacer. Some low end improvement but lost mid range and top end. Go figure?

HI!... CRAZYABOUTF-150 : I figure that MIKE T's #'s are right about on. I think though that you will be surprised if you test the POWERAID SPACER on a dyno. I got very negative results with it and everytime I installed it at the dragstrip, my truck lost 2-3 tenths compared with out it installed. Talk to MIKE TROYER about SUPERCHIPS dyno testing on the PRO-M and BBK 75MM TB. You will be disappointed in their true H.P gain. If your lucky you will gain about 5H.P with the BBK 75MM TB, and that's only if you port the TB elbow to the same size diameter. The un-ported TB elbow is considerbly smaller. With some casting "FLASH". The PRO-M has about the same H.P gains. From what I have seen from dyno sheets and personal experience the BBK and the PRO-M are worth about 7-10H.P at their best. This is on a NATURALLY ASPERATED engine of coarse. Where you will see a lot of benifits from them is if you SUPERCHARGE your engine. Then their claimed H.P #'s will be close, but only then. As for the POWERAID SPACER, someone on this board posted actual dyno #'s with it on and off. Surprizingly they lost H.P and TORQUE throughout the entire RPM range. I can't remember the exact #'s, but it was something like 4H.P and 8FT/LBS of TORQUE. My PAS is now a aluminum paper weight, and if you act now, I will even throw in some GINZU knives and a tub of car wax for just $19.95!LOL!
These are the ruff H.P #'s for the following aftermarket products. These are H.P #'s measured at the flywheel for a 4.6.
-HEADERS - 14H.P
-AIRAID OR K&N FIPK's - 12H.P
-ASP POWER PULLEYS (2 peice set) - 7-10H.P
-SUPERCHIP - 24H.P
-CAT-BACK EXHAUST - 10-12h.p
-ELECTRIC FANS - 7-10H.P that the clutch fan was stealing to turn it.
-POWERAID TB SPACER - 0H.P GAIN AND MIGHT ACTUALLY COST YOU H.P AND TORQUE.
-BBK TB - 5H.P (If TB elbow is ported to match)
-PRO-M - 5H.P (If run on a N/A engine)
Don't get me wrong, Most of these items DO add H.P and TORQUE to our trucks, but not at the manufactures ratings and some will not give you any increase at all. Most of these #'s were given to me by SUPERCHIPS dyno runs and MIKE TROYER.
Hey MIKE : I was quoting those #'s from memory, so if I screwed some up just correct me,O.K.

Hey Neal,
Hey, I appreciate the information on horsepower numbers. About the same that Mike has stated, minus the TB and Poweraid spacer (-#@?&!HP).
Maybe I'll get brave and take my spacer off and see how the engine runs without it. It really sucked off the line and up to 3200 rpms without it after installing the 75mm TB. Now with the custom Superchip, maybe it will compensate for the somewhat air increase.
Your right about the matching of the TB and the elbow on the intake. I wish I could take my truck to a shop to get some machine work done. Unfornately, being married to a wonderful lady who cares nothing about cars and trucks, it's hard to hide some things from her. Everything to date that I have modified has been done without her knowledge! It helps when I pay the bills.

Hey 5150PhD,
You might be in luck in getting a Poweraid spacer locally pretty soon. After talking with Neal on the board here, the spacer may not be helping my 4.6 at all.
I going to get some numbers on a dyno or times in the 1/4 mile and see what's taking place.
