Question Amsoil & Oil Analysis

Hello Everyone,

I started my truck out on Pennzoil changing the oil at 2,500 & 5,500 miles. I then switched to 5w30 Mobil 1 with the 820s filter changing the oil every +/- 4,500 miles. I now have 31,000 miles on the truck and am planning on switching to Amsoil’s 25,000 mile or one year oil.

I am planning on putting the Amsoil in and driving it a few miles to mix the Amsoil with any residual Mobil 1 that may be left in the engine and then catch a sample to have it analyzed. Then drive the truck for 6 months which will be around 7,500 miles and catch another sample when I change the oil filter. This sample will be compared to the first sample to see how the oil and filter is doing.

My question is, is anybody else out there running Amsoil and if so, how do you like it. And finally, is anybody else doing oil analyses and what were your findings.
I have never run any oil over 5,000 miles and am not ready to blindly trust the Amsoil. If the oil analysis at 7,500 miles looks bad, it's back to Mobil 1. But, if it works, it will cut my oil bill in half.

Thanks in advance.

I switched to Amsoil about 6k miles ago.. I've been changing the filter (FL820) every 3k miles as this is still required.

I too am interested in doing a test to verify Amsoil's claim.
Where can I get an oil analysis kit and the address to send it?

Also, I've heard you want to get your sample while the engine is warm and get it via a tube down the dipstick hole so you get a representive sample.. (instead of getting it from the filter or drain plug).

When you switch to Amsoil (Series 2000 0W30 synthetic) you should flush the engine out first, as per Amsoil's Instructions. Also, use the SDF11 filter......Mark.......aka sundayniagara@hotmail.com
