Post 4.6 Cobra Engine

I've got an opportunity to buy a 4.6L Cobra engine. The price is affordable!

My mechanic has purchased a '94 5.0L Cobra engine for his '90 F150 and it's pretty stout! He's trying to talk me into buying this one and add the mods I currently have on my 4.6 to it.

I'll appreciate some feedback. Drivetrain capability, engine fit, headers, intake, etc?

By the way, if it does work, then there might be a 4.6L for sale in the classifieds, only 5400 miles.

It can be done, I read an issue a long time ago in some type of truckin magazine where they did this. If I remember correctly it bolts up to the trans, I think a few fabrications where needed, and you need a pc for the cobra engine.

In my opinion you would be MUCH better off with a blower on your current engine, or else you'd need to put a roots type (Whipplecharger) blower on the Cobra motor. I've got a '97 Cobra and the motor is severly lacking in torque for even a 3500lb car, it will be much worse in a truck that weighs 1000lbs more.

Hi '01BlackF150,

I thought the same thng about the torque of that engine. Even without adding the bolt-ons, the torque of the 4.6 is almost a much as the Cobra engine. If you have the 5.4, it's more.

I asked some guys today about the engine and they said they have heard some complaints on the heads of the Cobra engine.

I'll probably not worry about this subject anymore. A few more mods and add the blower. I've look into the Magnacharger kit.

Thanks!
