Fuel Consumption Log
Check out my consumption log - Don't know if this is normal, but it feels creepy:
Date Odometer Litres Price per Litre Total
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
22-March: Picked up truck from dealer with full tank of gas and 9 kilometers on the odometer.
24-Mar 203.5 53.042 .789 $41.85
25-Mar 693.6 78.4 .797 $62.48
Installed K & N Air Filter
27-Mar 930. 55.832 .786 $43.88
Diablo Performance Chip Installed
27-Mar 1,357.4 67.68 .798 $54.01
28-Mar 1,621.9 54.57 .785 $54.57
First Oil Change @ 1,950 Kilometers
A.R.E. Z series Cap installed
04-Apr 2,022.3 89.083 .794 $70.73
==============================================
Looks to me like I used 398.607 Litres of Fuel (94 octane) to travel 2013.3 Kilometers.
I've been driving it like a baby, rarely taking it above 2,000 RPM.
Not that I'm complaining, but is this normal to use 25 gallons to drive about 300 miles? (close estimate) 4 litres per US gallon

Is it normal? I don't know there is such a term when referring to fuel economy with our trucks, but I filled up today, put in 30.030 gallons of fuel and had 424 miles on my tripometer. As many members as there are on this board, will probably get that many various answers.
That's my 2 cents,

as one member replied to me "i've been in search of the holy grail of gas mileage" and it is what it is. 12 -15mpg on good days. what's frustrating is the post of 19 to 20 mpg's with the same engines. go figure?
Thx Taldb, & to everyone else who replied to this post,
I guess I was trying to use old logic, you know, break it in nice and easy, don't be cheap with the oil changes, and I was hoping it would have been a little better than that.
Not that getting 12 instead of 15 is going to break me financially, but I was expecting it to be slightly better.
I can't wait to see what happens when I actually put a load in the back and pull a trailer, lol
While I'm at it, does anyone know if using 94 octane is overkill with my chip? Or is 92 just as good?
Thanks again
Habibi

Drive it like you stole it
My 99 5.4 3.73 always got 13.5-15.5 on 85 octane. I experimented quite I bit and determined I got just as good if not better mileage with a heavy foot - go figure. Who can drive at 2k rpm anyway?
My new 02 5.4 3.55 87 octance - first tank an even 13 (who knows if the dealer really filled it all the way up?). Second tank was 16, driving it the way I will always be driving it.

I just input my data into ownersite.com, what a cool tool to have at our disposal. Great site and thanks for adding the ownersite!
The only thing I donèt like about it is that I can see how much money Iève actually spent on my truck! Ouch! HAHAHA

My milage
Since owning my 2002 5.4 F150 I have put on a total of 3,056 miles and used 233 gallons of gas for a 13.13 MPG. Since installing a flowmaster 40 series muffler, I have increased from 12.5 mpg to 14 mpg.
The Ford 3.0L V6 (vulcan) needs to be "driven" otherwise fuel economy goes down. I imagine most truck engines are like that due to the loads they're meant to handle (all that low end torque and not much high end hp)
Driving lightly gets me 18mpg.
Getting into it a bit gets me 20mpg consistently.

My 2002 4.6L with 3.55 gears is getting 19 mpg with mixed freeway and back cury roads. I think it will get better after it is broken in. It only has 1000 miles on it now. But....I am getting a whine in the rear end at 41 to 45 mph.....
Just an FYI:
your engine is nearly broken in @ 500 miles.
What you will experience as you near 5000-10000 miles is an increase in the compression ratio of the engine due to the pours in the combustion chamber being filled with combustion productions thereby reducing the clearance volume. You should get a 1 to 2 mpg rise.

Imperial gallon is 4.55 litres
US Gallon is 3.78 litres
With your data it shows about 14mpg (Imperial). That's fairly low if it's a 4.6 and you baby it. I get about 17-18mpg with 2/3 hwy driving. 4.6 auto, 3.55 LS, 4x4 offroad, 17inch rims.
If I shifted at 2000 or just over I'd get even better mileage.
Do you have a 5.4? Stuff like vent visors and running boards and big mud flaps will make the mileage worse too, as well as heavy stuff like a winch.
Increase your tire pressure to 37-40 psi.
