Question Synthetic substitute for 5W-20 Oil

I recently ordered a SCrew F150 with a 5.4L. I have been looking into using a synthetic oil for it. Ford recommends using 5W-20 (new recommendation for 2001 Ford engines. See http://dallnd6.dal.mobil.com/GIS/Mob...OpenDocument).
Does anyone know of a manufacturer that manufactures a "True" synthetic 5W-20? It doesn't seem to be carried in the Mobil 1 product line.

Purchased a SCrew, but have to wait 12 weeks for delivery. Ordered:

2001 Supercrew 4x4 Lariat (Gen III)
Deep Wedgewood Blue/Arizona Beige Metallic 2 tone
5.4L Triton V8
3.55 Limited Slip Differential
Trailer Tow - Class III
Heated Front Seats
Platform-Type Cab Steps
Engine Block Heater

Sorry but Amsoil doesnt' have a 5w20 out yet.

The 0w30 is what I was told to recommend until it comes out. Problem is they actually don't have the API spec out for the oil yet. So Amsoil doesn't want to make up a new one until the actual spec comes out.

This is what was told to me by tech services at Amsoil. I talked to Darrin. (715)392-7101 is the number if you want to ask for yourself.

Here is the sheet on the 0w30:

BTW.

According to the last National Oil and Lube News.

The new Pennzoil and Quaker State 5w20 is a synthetic blend. Also the pennzoil has its new conventional base stock "purebase" along with a synthetic basestock to produce this new 5w20 so it should be a pretty good oil. though it will be probably over $2 a quart.

I looked out on www.amsoil.com. Looks like the only 5W oil that they carry is the 5W-30. Does anyone manufacture a 5W-20 synthetic oil yet (since it is a new requirement for 2001 Ford engines)? Thanks.

Thanks for the responses. Found the product literature for Penzoil (http://www.pennzoil-quakerstate.com/indx_pqs/about/products/pr2000-10-31.htm). Is a synthetic blend oil the same as a pure synthetic oil? Or is it recommended that it be changed at 3000 mile intervals like a standard oil base?

Here is a working link:
http://www.pennzoil-quakerstate.com/...2000-10-31.htm

I would say that you should ask pennzoil about that here is a list of numbers for you to check out.
http://www.pennzoil-quakerstate.com/..._brands_fs.htm

Maybe you could call and see what they say about change intervals??? Then post what you find out. I would do it but I really don't care what their drain interval is for various reasons

Hey Doorslammer69, obviously you use the AMS 0w30. Have you had good luck with it? How often do you drain it? Is your Ford one of the 2001's that require (suggest?) the 5w-20? I don't want to void any warranties because I used a weight that didn't follow spec.

The Pennzoil-Quaker State news release says: "SAE 5W-20 motor oils currently provide the highest level of fuel economy specified by the automotive industry and help meet new lower emission requirements. However, SAE 5W-20 motor oils are only for use in those automobiles for which they are recommended by the manufacturer."

So, what's different if anything between say a 2000 4.6 and a 2001 4.6 in the manufacturing process that prepares the 2001s for this thinner oil? What's wrong with running 5W-30 in a 2001?

I'd like to know since my ex's SCrew is coming up for its first oil and filter change and nobody sells 5W-20 around here.

Why do you only change oil at 10,000 miles ?
Seems that a quart of oil, no matter who made it, will only hold so much in suspension. Same problem with the filter it can only hold so much crud. Oil and filter is cheaper than a new truck.
