anyone tried the Superchip?
I filled up with tank #5 today after the Superchip. I think 3 MPG is not the norm but that's the improvement I'm seeing around town.
It also improves shifting greatly. Of course the power throughout is great as well. It is definetly worth the money. Keep in mind though, not everyone sees better MPG. Pesonally, I think driving habits have a great deal to do with it. You chip it and you drive it harder. I'm actually driving a little more conservativly most of the time because I'm getting the power I need without nailing it.
It just makes it so much more enjoyable to drive!

jjim69,
Dont buy the chip just for better gas mileage. The better mileage is only a by-product of the retuning of chip and using premium gas. I have had the chip in for a few months, and it is great. The increased power, is noticeable, as well as the improved shift points, if you have an automatic transmission.
My mileage really hasnt improved significantly, maybe 1 mpg, but I dont really pay too close attention, also I drive mostly city miles.
The chip is a great aftermarket product for performance, but dont be misled by thinking its going to improve mileage. Thats not what its for.
Hope this helps, and I do recommend the Superchips brand chip. Good luck!

(I think that is a good start)

I, too, have the Superchip. My highway mileage has improved by 1-2 MPG, but my in-town mileage has actually dropped a bit. My overall average over the first 9,200 miles is 15.5795 MPG, mostly highway miles.
However, the changes to the shifting are where this chip really shines. It makes the truck drive like it should, and not like it was tuned for a granny to drive. IMHO, even with the lower city mileage and the cost of Premium gas, it's worth the money.

I got 2 mpg better around town, no improvement on the highway with the chip. Performance gains were great. All in all a great purchase. Get it from Mike Troyer and you will get an F150 online discount and the best customer service.

Superchip is very good HP per $ in performance, but does little for mileage. My opinion only.

I get the same gas milage with the chip as I did without it. However, it feels like it has more power and the shifting is improved too. Don't expect too much, but it's not bad for the price.

Hi jjim69,
The Superchip will help with the performance of your 4.2 V-6 F-150, as you can see from the other responses you've received here from other Superchip owners.
I did want to comment on the issue of gas mileage improvements with the Superchip......
This is merely a by-product of the performance tuning, so your results will depend on how you drive it as well as your fuel quality. Most people tend to drive the vehicle a bit harder after first installing the Superchip, it's natural to do since you're checking out the new performance levels. Once the novelty of a new "go-fast" part wears off and your driving returns to normal, if you can keep your foot out of the throttle most people see about 1.5-2.0 more mpg. A few get a bit more, a few get a bit less, but that's what the numbers seem to average from all the feedback we get.
Now one thing you need to know up front is that the Superchip requires the use of premium gas, as it is the re-tuning of the engine specifically for premium gas that unlocks a lot of the additional power. For most people who drive 20,000 miles per year or less, the increased fuel costs average about $150-$200 per year. For those who want to be able to use regular gas, we do have another type of Superchip, called the Flip Chip, which can store any 2 programs. Some F-150 owners have had us configure them with one program for regular gas, and then the other our normal performance program for premium gas, so that is an option as well.
If you're primarily looking to increase gas mileage and don't care about performance, then the Superchip might not be for you, as it's a performance chip first and foremost. But if you want more power and improved driveability, the Superchip is the most cost-effective way to do that in these vehicles, and it will work well with other bolt-ons like K&N air filters, cat-back exhausts, etc.
I know you're looking for feedback directly from owners, but if you have other questions or would like to go over any aspect of the Superchip for your vehicle in detail, please feel free to give is a call, we're always happy to assist & answer questions, so you can give it some thought.
