Question Time for a performance upgrade, Chip or Headers

Well its time to do something with the truck b/c i need to catch up to my mustang a little (LOL). I am thinking about a chip, but will that effect the gas mileage by a lot? What about Headers? Which ones will bolt right up with no problems and will give most performance? Thanks guys.

STWater-

You won't get less mileage with the chip; many get an improvement. You will have to use premium fuel. HP per $$, the chip is a hands down winner over the headers.

another vote for the chip. I've had mine for a couple of months and I still can't get use to it. There are sooo many advantages to it, once you get it you'll be saying "Why did I wait to do this?" The chip has got to be one of the most bang for the buck mods ever. More than the filter and exhaust combined. I run the truck on 93 octane. 94 is available but inconvenient. The way the truck operates irradicates any hesitation about paying a couple more bucks at the pump. The mpg has gone up slightly eventhough it's so hard for me to keep my foot off the gas.
Other benefits include quieter and smoother operation of engine components, easier revving and higher rpms, and better shift points for the auto tranny.
In conclusion, CHIP IT CHIP IT CHIP IT CHIP IT CHIP IT CHIP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll put in a vote for the chip. I have one and love it (superchip). Besides that you have to look at the work to beer ratio. Working efficiently you can have the chip working in say, 30 minutes (.5 hours) and one beer. If you put headers on you will have to work for 6 or 7 hours, and can only have 1 or 2 beers or you will mess it up.

So .5 to 1 (1:2) or 2 to 6 (1:3). I think you can see the chip is the obvious choice.
