Post Performance

I have a 98 xlt supercab flareside 2wd with
a 4.6 V8 and a 5 speed trany. The only mod I have done was to add a K&N FIPK.
This is a VERY strong performing truck.
I find that I will be needing 4wd, so I am considering a new truck.

My question is, would a 2001 4wd 4.6 litre regular cab, short bed with a manual tranny be as fast as my current truck?

I am hoping that the lower weight of the regular cab and extra hp of the newer 4.6 will offset the weight of the 4wd system.

My current truck is a blast to drive, and I would hate to be disappointed by the new truck.

How might a 5.4 automatic do?

I know this is a very subjective question, but I would appreciate any opinions.

From what I've read the regular cabs are only around 300lbs lighter then extended cabs (someone currect me if I am wrong), and in rough 1/4 mile terms that would be 3/tenths of a second reduction. I'm not sure how much weight the extra drive train from a 4x4 would add over a 4x2.

If you want to now how well a 5.4 auto can perform, find NEAL and read his very very long signature.

Yes, that is a pretty subjective question. My truck is no drag car, but i think it's pretty peppy. The '01 should be even better.
