From: SE Wyoming, try and find me
after I slopped oil all over the driveway I learned to hold the plug tight and then pull it out and up\back so you dont get any on you or the driveway. I too have showed people it and they dump it all over themselves. You can also puncture the oil filter with an awl and let it drain out makes it easier to take off and less messy.
i have thought about those valves but I never trusted them, last thing I would want is the dang thing coming loose and dumping my oil at 75mph and 3,000 rpm BOOM, weep weep. I even carry an extra filter and change of oil in case the filter goes. We have had 2 Wix filters completely explode and you lose all your oil damn fast. I still like WIX but I use motorcraft on my truck.

sure....

Not a bad idea.....we have used a system close to this in aviation engines for years....just push to drain and pull to stop....it works perfectly.....but in a truck where access is not limited and where it drains straight down ot a pan I would say use the tried and proven method...

I guess it seems to me just opening the drain plug is insignificant in the area of mess creation when compared to removing the @#>>$!$ filter.
