Question Idle Problems

I have a 97 f150 with 5.4 engine. During the latest cold snap the engine lost the high idle at start up and check engine light is on. I plugged it into the diagnostic computer and codes read it has a bad idle air control module. I called the dealership to buy one and they are on back order. They have 12 in stock but are reserved for other trucks and waiting to be installed. The parts guy told me that ford had a bad batch of these and the cold weather is making them finally go bad. The service adviser said that there will most likely be a recall on these in the near future. He said if I buy the part and install it, I will be reimbursed when the recall happens.

My question is, has anyone else had this problem show up this winter? Has anyone ever been reimbursed in a case like this? Not to big of a deal, the part is only 50.00.

Thanks!

Thumbs up

Hi kray, I have the same problem. Had my truck in for service this week and was also told that part was on backorder. Nice to hear they weren't dancing with me. As a temporary fix I carry a large screwdriver in the truck. When it won't idle I give the module a few sharp taps and I'm on my way.
