I was wondering what is the maximum speed you can still jump down into 1st and 2nd gears with the 4.10's?? With the 3.55's i have now i can still jump down at around 33-34mph and 73-74mph. Just curious to know how bad it will knock those numbers down with 4.10's. And also, at what mph (WOT) does it shift out of 1st and 2nd gear??

HI!... JUST RIGHT : I can still get 1ST gear drop and 2nd gear drop at the same speeds you posted. As for upshifting, I can just hit 40mph and 82mph at wot. 3rd gear tops out at 117mph with OVERDRIVE off.

I'm basically wanting better 1/4 mile times...and 1/8 for that matter. Max, you said it looses power if stretched out too far... at what speed does it start loosing? I'm not into the "how fast it will run", i'm just wanting better times at the track and to be able to play with others at street lights
And as far as mods go, i don't plan on going internal....just all the bolt ons possible. So at what point(mph) with those mods would it start dieing out??

Hey guys,
Neal I was wondering how tall your tires are(inches), the reason is cause you said that you top 3rd at 117, what rpms are twisting, I can rap to about 5400, according to my TRUSTY factory tach......Where would I be (mph) at 4100 rpm in OD, the tire diameter on my truck is 31"...I just would like to get an idea of how fast I was going in mph versus how blurry everything was..

And to Justin 4.10's are nice for that extra GO, I have been satisfied, and still get around 14mpg in the city..
and just FYI I barely hit 42 in 1st and sometimes I can touch 76 into 2nd..

I have not gone to the track since all my mods, I want to but due to a very bad vibration in my driveline I have not..
I am saving some money to have the driveshaft checked for balance, otherwise if I go over 85, it will start to humm real bad and I will throw another rear tailhousing seal....like last week.
But I will hopefully get a chance to run in the next 2 months..I sure do like the response the truck has from a stop, it's quick...and picks up quite nicely when it drops into 3rd..

HI!... 5.4 LARIAT : I top out in 3RD gear at 5400 RPM's. I have GOODYEAR 275/60/R-17 tires that come out to a height of 29.99 inches.
If you have 4.10 gears, 31 inch tall tires, in overdrive (0.71 RATIO) at 4100 rpm's you would be going 129.95MPH. If you can hit 5400 rpm's in 3RD gear (1.00 RATIO) then you wouls be going 121.52MPH.

Thanks for the answer to my question...I had been wondering how fast I got that night...I have not gone that fast since...well the vibration limits me to 85-90...lol....it sucks....oh well...Maybe thats why I did not seem to acclerate much after 4100 on the tach, and thats why I let off...well lets say it was 130 and I think that will stay my top speed for a while..or till I get the vibration fixed and the ASP pullies..

HI!... 5.4 LARIAT : Make sure to check out your SLIP YOKE on the driveshaft where it enters the tailstock. I had all kinds of problems with mine and it helped my 1ST tranny go bye, bye. Yes there was a bad vibration with the worn out slip yoke.
