Thumbs down SEAN HYLAND's SMOKING CRACK?

HI!... Well guys, today I called SEAN HYLAND MOTORSPORTS here in ONTARIO, CANADA, to get a price on a few things. The main thing I was calling about was a price on getting another set of "99" PI 5.4 heads ported/polished and a 3 angle valve job. I told them that I would be supplying a complete set of heads and that all they had to do was disassemble, port/polish, 3 angle valve job and reassemble. They quoted me $2500.00(CAN) just for that! Then you have to add another 15% sales tax to that! That comes out to $2875.00(CAN). Then the price of a set of donnor heads from a salvage yard $1500.00(CAN) + 15% sales tax! That's $1725.00(CAN)!!! Then I asked them for a quote on having them install the modified heads onto my truck and swap over the cams and needed parts for a complete swap. They told me that the only way that they would do it, is that they would have to remove my engine from my truck. They quoted me $4300.00(CAN) that's including taxes. So if you do the math, that's $8900.00(CAN) so you can gain 55H.P!!!! I think their on CRACK! That's insane. I know that their is a ton of labour to install a set of heads on these overhead cam engines, but that is rediculass! I had a complete race port/polish, valve job and flow bench test done on the heads that are on my 408 STROKER motor in my RANGER drag truck and that only cost me $300.00(CAN)!!!! I think that the only reason that SHM charges so much is that they have a monopoly on the modular engine market right now and that their is NO serious competion for them to govern their pricing. All I can say is that I won't be getting any head work done by them. After I got off the phone with them, I called me engine builder, and he told me that he would do the port/polishe, valve job, and flow bench testing on these heads for $800.00(CAN)! That's a huge difference from SHM's $2875.00(CAN)! Of coarse the labour of getting the heads installed on my truck is still way too expensive for me to warrent doing it. At least for 55H.P! For that amount of money, I'd rather buy a supercharger and get twice the H.P/TQ and still be able to simply remove it to trade the truck in. At least then I would be able to sell it or install the supercharger onto another vehicle. Just my opinion guys, and no flames are intended. Just venting!LOL!

you don't have to pull the engine to change the heads. They are a pain but it would be a much larger pain to pull the engine to do them. Also timing the engine is not much fun unless u know what u are doing, no more pointing the dots with ford if u ever see a ford shop manual take a look, it should give u a good laugh as u see how they go out of their way to make things difficult
