Thumbs up

My old 1990, V6, 2.9L, Ranger, used to make belt noise, to make sure the noise comes from yhe belts, with the engine running, pour a little water on the belts and if the nosie goes away, then the noise is from the belts, I think the belt sides get crystalized and start making the noise.

My 99 f150 w/2000 5.4l does the same thing in the cold. I drive a little while and it goes away I thought it was the a/c compressor or the power steering pump. Then I went out one day and listened with my stethoscope and could not here it any where it was then that I listened bare eared for a while and realized the sound travels around the front of the engine and it must just be the belt. I went to a parts store last night and the darn belt was $33 I can put up with a little noise in the cold for that much.
