Question Filter Magnets

Anybody out there ever use those magnets that attach to your oil filter to collect small block shavings?

Haven't used that particular method -- however I do remove the cyllindrical magnet from a pocket screw-driver and wedge it in a properly-sized hole drilled in the drain plug.

I can see any 'fuzz' that collects during each oil change (very very little fuzz seen during the last one).

Here is a alternative to buying those expensive magnets. Contact your local appliance repair man. Ask for some old magnetrons, off of microwave ovens, that he has changed out. Remove the magnet from them and place on the oil filter. They are very strong and you can even stack several on top of each other. He will probably give these to you. I just put some on my trucks tuesday they didnt cost anything so I can't loose anything.

Are they curved to fit the shape of a filter? Supposedly the market ones are composed such that they will never lose their strength either. Don't know how much of that is marketing hype. They run about $20 I think.

The magnets off the magnetrons are shaped like pineapple slices. And about the same size. I stuck them to the bottom of the oil filter and the whole shell of the oil filter is magnetized.
