Filter Magnets
Haven't used that particular method -- however I do remove the cyllindrical magnet from a pocket screw-driver and wedge it in a properly-sized hole drilled in the drain plug.
I can see any 'fuzz' that collects during each oil change (very very little fuzz seen during the last one).

Are they curved to fit the shape of a filter? Supposedly the market ones are composed such that they will never lose their strength either. Don't know how much of that is marketing hype. They run about $20 I think.
