In short, my beliefs can be summarized as follows:

1) Global warming - a farce (mere scientific opinion)
2) Contamination of ground water - non-issue as it is prohibited (at least where I live), small number of violators are inconsequential
3) Depletion of natural resource - again a farce, even scientists cannot determine within certainty how much is left.

Sounds like you are quoting the President George W Bush Environmental and Energy policies.

Sorry, this just struck me as so funny. We're all here blowing off huge amounts of political steam, and ... well, it's just so out of place. Thanks for the laugh DanB.

I had to chuckle too - man, a little venting session!

In any event, the fact remains that the manufacturer recommends 3,000 mile oil changes for severe duty applications. I meet two of the criteria defining severe duty, therefore I change on that schedule. If I didn't follow the severe duty schedule, I'd follow the normal schedule calling for 5,000 mile changes. I wouldn't call that misguided, would you?

In any event, the rest of the arguement has been entertaining!

i changed my oil once.....

haha, gotcha. but no, seriously...i changed it once at the 3 month mark even though i didn't even log 3000 miles on the odometer and the oil was still nasty looking and full of crap (not literally full of crap, just a figure of speach).

-i change oil at 3,000 miles and nothing you can say will make me do otherwise......so there.

-CAN YOU SMELL WHAT I'M COOKIN??!!!!!

In regards to global warming. I guess we should be talking about greenhouse gasses.

In laymen's terms, greenhouse gasses inhibits the radiation of energy from the surface of the earth into space. A very simple way to look at this is by taking a look at your weather, especially at night. When there aren't any clouds in the sky, the air temperature will most likely drop really fast because the heat is able to radiate out into space fairly easily. However, when there are clouds, no matter how thin, the night will be fairly warm. This is assuming there isn't much wind in both cases. The clouds reflect the radiant energy back to the ground where it heats up the air.

Greenhouse gasses, while being for the most part invisible, are able to reflect a lot of the longer wavelengths of energy. The higher the concentration of these gasses, the more it's able to reflect this energy.

These gasses are what's contributing to global warming. It's inhibiting the earth's ability to radiate excess heat out into space.

In regards to my previous posts, I was only pointing out the irony of it all.

BTW, if 3,000 is better, than 5,000, why not 1,000 mile oil changes? It's gotta be better for your truck's engine, huh?

Bush is too left-wing for me.... Haven't you heard, I'm a raving right-wing lunatic? I change my oil every 3 hours, I needlessly bow-hunt wild animals, domestic pets, and red-headed children under 3 years of age, and I am presently working on legislation that would assess income tax only on poor minorities and not the rich folk.

wow what a post!!!!

Does anyone think it is fair for me to say that what is going on in the earth's environment is an extremely complex issue and none of us truly possess ALL the information needed to really know what is right??

We all have our opinions, isn't great we live in a land that allows us the freedom to express them?

All I was trying to say is that I understand how global warming/greenhouse gasses are supposed to work. I'm also suggesting that there are significant bodies of evidence that suggest that our emissions our so paltry compared to the CO2 emissions of volcanoes that it is essentially like adding a bottle of Zephyrhills to a tidal wave. Therefore, in my opinion it is more dangerous to force emissions controls and alternative fuel mandates down businesses' throats (which could stymie or destroy business) without further research on both sides of the issue. Again, I will also mention (as I have before) that there are numerous bodies of research that indicate a warmer climate would be more beneficial for our inhabitation on the earth with respect to agriculture.

Cool

"research that indicate a warmer climate would be more beneficial for our inhabitation on the earth with respect to agriculture."

I agree with that. You did however forget something in that statement. "Warmer climate" = more days for waxing/polishing are F150's. Oops sorry about that, that should be another toxic decussion for another forum.

I must admit I love all these forums here in F150online. You all sound very sincer in your views and state your points very well as well as give some great advice. I on the other hand may know how to design automated test stations, but I wish I knew as much about our F150's as many of you do. I am however always willing to learn. I do enjoy posting a few comments here and there.

Oh, by the way, anybody know what cats are good for?

(I've decided to keep my mouth partially shut about this, mainly because I won't have a future family to try to protect)

As for the 3000 mile oil change, that's a heavily padded figure to cover the butt of the company in instances of warranty repair, etc..

It's called a "factor of safety" and it basically means that engineering is still guess work, with assumptions and we need a fudge factor so everything will be "good enough"

Yup, the earth is warming. 10 thousand years ago it was covered with ice and now its almost warm enough for me. Man can't stop it nor cause it, some day the earth will end, scary huh? I'll be in heaven so no worries here. Also, I've decided not to chage my oil anymore, I'm going to run it though the wife's coffee maker and clean it myself.

My .02...

If you're worried about environmental effects of oil changes, global warming and the like, park your nasty environmental thief of a vehicle - the more gas and oil for the rest of us.

As for global warming, I'm all for it. If Minnesota had 75 degree winters, I might visit more often.

For what its worth.

Another Myth

I'm waiting for the full discussion on the origin of what we call crude oil Not that it is an endangered "fossil" fuel but rather an unlimited naturally occuring element created by pressure and chemical reaction within the earth. Every so often, some of the facts slip out into the media. I can not remember the name of the group, but there are scientists who are in the process of proving this theory. It would certainly let the air (and profits) out of a lot of sails.

Guy21

A couple of us know exactly what you are talking about. There was a recently published article that I'll try to find this week, maybe I'll start a thread under general discussion.

No one wants to print or televise that news, as I have mentioned before, because it MUST be nonsense. The liberal viewpoint is that all opinions and theories are valid unless they differ with the liberal viewpoint, in which case they are no longer valid. In essence, certain "opinions" are tagged as "hate-filled" or "extremist" and thus do not "deserve" respect as "opinions."
