Exclamation For those who had their head gaskets replaced. PLEASE REPLY HERE.

I took my truck (24K miles) in on Monday for the oil leak problem. The service guy admitted to the oil leak problems on some of the Ford engines. Bad news is they're only replacing the head gasket. By the way, they had to take out the entire engine to do the job, "it's alot easier," they said.
They NEVER attempted to contact me before they started working on the truck, which pi$$ed me off alittle and told me they should be done in another day.

To everyone who had their gaskets replaced. Did the problem return? I'm alittle worried about this "oil leak" returning after the warranty expires. Personally, I think this is only a temporary fix. If this B.S. returns I'm selling the truck and getting something else.

I had the headgasket replaced. No further leaks or hot oil smell so far, but only 1,000 miles.
Just what other truck would you consider? Dodge and Chevy have even more problems, and Toyota Tundra is smaller and junkier(plastic) than the F150 IMHO.

Can't believe they took the entire engine out to replace headgaskets. I had mine done and did not have engine removed. In fact my was done at the same time another fellow had his done from NC. I had emailed him earlier and I believe he had a 4.6 Expedition. My engine was a 5.4
No problems so far.

I really don't mind if they removed the engine; only if they put EVERYTHING back together correctly. But I guess I'll find out.
N99Gt, I've been interested in the SuperCrew. Since I have a bunch of add-ons, I can transfer it over to the new truck with no problems. If I don't, I'll definitely get an extended warranty for my truck just in case of any future problems.

Cool

HI!... JUPITERAK : I had a head gasket leak on my "99" 5.4. I took it to my dealer and they replaced the head gaskets, and gave me two brand new "2000" cylinder heads. The new heads came fully assembled with valves, camshafts ETC. It's been about 15,000KMS since I had it done and I hav'nt had a problem yet. Just to make sure, I bought the extended warrenty after it was done.

I am about to take my vehicle in for the same problem, I haven't had any work done "yet" but the dealer did indicate that they have seen problems with the 4.6 and 5.4 engines and will be providing me with a loaner because they will need the truck for at least a week. From the research I have done so far about this problem, the head gasket replacement will only get you through your warranty period! Apparently there is a casting problem with the block, not the heads. I have been trying to get actual comsumer proof of dealers replacing the engine, but no one seems to want to respond so I wonder if people are making up their story. Whatever the case is, I personally find it unacceptable for Ford to put a bandage on a $35,000+ vehicle. Check out the following links, they are just two of the many sources that indicate the problem.

Red face

I have a 1998 Xcab 4X4 with the 4.6 which developed an antifreeze leak at 65k miles. I took it in on November 27th and they still have it. Told me they needed to machine both heads and replace the gaskets. I am supposed to get it back today. 26 total days. I called Ford Customer Relations and got them to pay half the $1,800 bill. They tell me the problem is because of the aluminum heads. I am not done with the dealer on this one as I am a little upset they took 26 days to finish a job which should have taken a week to 2 at the most.

Good luck with yours!

I have had real good luck with all my new Ford's. Not sure how I'd handle these situations. I hate to say this, but have any of you talked to a lawyer. It sounds like Ford is shafting you guys.
