Unhappy ??'s for those with FQR engines or heads.

Well, I took my truck (24K miles) in today due to the leaking oil problem. The service guy was pretty nice and acknowledged about the head/casting problems. Bad news is, he told me the heads would need to be replaced. I told him I wanted BRAND NEW heads. He then replied he couldn't guarantee it, because Ford only uses FQR heads as warranty work. Is this true? That's B.S. Has anyone else been told this? I know there's very few who've gotten brand new engines. And those with the FQR heads, any problems? Thanks.

Bill

A friend of mine at work, had his v6 engine replaced for some reason. At first, Ford sent out what looked like a rebuilt engine. Dean, the person whom I'm referring to, told them to take it back, and to send a new engine. Ford did send a new engine, after some heated discussion(sp)? If you want, I'll speak with him in the morning, and find out how he exactly acheived this.

Angry

Thanks, Nitrox. I forgot to add that the service guy told me they would have to remove the engine to get to the head.

Well the service guy is nuts if he figures u have to pull the engine to get the heads or head off. Gennerally only the pass side head leaks so u only change the pass side head gasket, and when the head is off u chek the block and the head for flatness, if the block is bad u replace the engine, if the head replace the head, niether replace the gasket. How can the guy say u need new heads without having it appart? And the biggest thing with doing heads on those engines is that the surfaces have to be spotless to prevent leaks and no have to be cleaned carefully, o by the way my pass head gasket leaked from day one, notice oil smell at about 5,000k and it was the first 5.4 in our shop that had the head done for that purpose and all that was replaced was the head gasket, but it was spotlessly cleaned and now i have 35,000k and no leak, 99 bought in oct 98 and in about jan did the head gasket. By the way i have seen a lot of post where people have had the engines replaced for head gasket leaks, and i cant see how it can be that necessary

by the way the head gasket plus related items like head bolts and other gaskets, but thats it and i have done many more the same way, i work for ford so i have seen a fair share. O by the way i have the piston slap and ford will not get me a new engine and i work for them so i will keep my old engine before i will put in an fqr, becuse if i rebuilt my engine i will use forged pistons not hyperutectic the only engine that uses forged is the lightning - no piston slap - huh wonder why - they are a windsor 5.4 too
