Angry 1989 F150 4X4 !! 5.0L power.

Is this pretty much the same engine in a Mustang 5.0 ? My 2000 GT has the 4.6L when it was stock it had 265HP, now it has around 315HP or 330HP according to the mechanic who did my mods.

If this is the same engine whats stopping someone from adding some 5.0 mods to it ?

Cool

Some of the parts interchange, some don't. Most of the changes were to make the powerband more truck friendly. I'm sure you could make one into a street screamer if you are willing to sacrifice some low end torque.

My '95 5.0 4x4 has a three piece Ford Racing pulley set. Mustang parts work for many other things as well.

Maybe some GT-40 heads and valvetrain are in order...... hmmm....

BTW you might want to post this in the "Pre-97" conference.....

Thanks for the information. BTW did you get the underdrive pulley set ? I put some on my 4.6 2000GT, and a Borla (sp) Exhaust, and Ramair induction hood. I would love to give this 5.0L a little more power than what it has.

Do you have a good source for Engine parts for the 5.0L or the older 150s ?

Cool

Trace,

I picked up the pulleys at my local Ford dealer. I can get you a part number if you want.

There are tons of bolt-ons for these trucks. Pulleys, exhaust, intake, ignition, mass air, cams, you name it.

Currently I am running the pulleys, modified stock airbox with a K&N filter, and a Jacobs ignition. Woke the truck up very well. Exhaust work is yet to come. I usually do the exhaust first and waited this time to check it out. The mods helped quite a bit even with the stock exhaust, maybe they are better than we would think!

Anyway, Summitt, Jegs and many of the new web based places in the magazines stock parts. They are not nearly as plentiful as Mustang mods, but you can still find them.

My Jacobs was a great addition. Improved the low to mid range torque, idle, throttle respone, and mileage. My truck has a tall gear (3.31s) and it helped keep it from needing to downshift from OD as often too. Best of all the mileage increase is enough to pay for the unit in two years gas savings. Like a mod that pays for itself!
